Transfer Chances/Confusion??

Hi! I am currently in my last semester at a Community College with a GPA of 3.71. After reading the admissions information, I am a bit confused if I am eligible to apply to Columbia GS. After high school I had to take off six months of my education for medical reasons, and then took two classes as a non-matriculated student following that period. The gap was not an entire year, but I'm wondering if I could still be considered as an applicant? If anyone could shed light upon this I would greatly appreciate it, thanks so much! I am also a member of Phi Theta Kappa with good ACT scores, in addition to being on the Dean's List three out of four semesters.

I doubt it. You should apply to CC instead, although I think it would be tough with a 3.71, to be entirely honest.

You never know… if you have a compelling story you might have a shot. Save yourself the grief and give the office of admissions a call. Don’t be intimidated, they’re very nice and extremely helpful.

The whole “compelling story” part isn’t necessarily true. I’m in my Community College’s honors association, and they work with schools like Columbia and NYU who attract our students and offer several scholarships (Not saying it’s guaranteed admission). As long as you are pretty competitive and go above and beyond their requirements you’re i the running. EC’s are a must in our case , since “life experience” doesn’t necessarily cut it - ALTHOUGH with what you said, you definitely have a case. GS admissions travels to several Community colleges across the region, so you should check on their website to see if yours is on the list. As Clklim said, I would still call them, just to make sure.

I wanted to know what was the information session like? and this is a bit off topic, but what is everyone’s reason for wanting to go to Columbia?
