Transfer chances for 1st semester soph?

Hey guys, what's up? Although I'm happy and content at my current school, Elon, I'm thinking of transferring. My major is journalism, so I'm interested in any J-school south of New York and north of South Carolina. In high school I was accepted into all my schools: Elon, UMCP (accepted for the spring semester, however, not the fall), Penn State UP, IU-B, JMU, Guilford, and SUNY Albany.

What are my chances at UNC-CH, UMCP (see above), IU-B, Penn State, Missouri, USC (Carolina)?

Personal:
Male from a competitive public school in NY state.
URM- Hispanic

College:
gpa- right now it's a 3.0 because I really messed up as a first semester freshman, but by the end of this semester I should have a 3.2-3.3 and after winter term I should have a 3.3-3.4. I've gotten all A's within my major, communications, however, I also have 2 withdrawals on my transcript.

Freshman year:
Work at Campus Recreation, Work at the Elon Poll, S.M.A.R.T. (Multicultural) Program, Indoor soccer intramurals
Over the summer: work at Home Depot

Sophomore:
Work at Campus Recreation, Reporter for the school newspaper, I have my own radio show, and very soon I'm either going to become involved in an award-winning school television production or join the ultimate frisbee team

High school:
GPA- 89.1?, so about a 3.5 uw
SAT- 570 CR, 600 M, 670 W, 11 essay 1170/1840
6 honors classes taken, 1 ap, 5 ib
AP- 3- English Lang
Solid activities and the like

How did you screw up in your freshmen year? You knew that College is an important time for many student’s career.

Because I just did, that’s how. Other helpful advice appreciated.

UNC is a reach, but you’re hispanic, so it’s possible.

UNC, College Park, and Penn State seem like your best choices. Do any of those colleges have GPA cutoffs?

Also, if you want to pursue work as a journalist, you should probably watch any debt that you accumulate very carefully. Should the field become more competitive in the future, you want to be in a position where you can keep your options open and perhaps pursue further education (i.e, a masters).

If there is a really good reason for messing up than the OP should write an addendum. If he was simply unprepared or made bad choices, then the best thing that he can do is explain what he has learned from his mistakes.

bump. take out missouri and usc and add minnesota please
