Background:
I am currently a student at a community college in North Carolina. I will have 30 semester hours by the end of my term. I plan on transferring to the following schools, in this order:

UNC Chapel Hill
NC State
Appalachian State University
Elon University

I would like to know my chances of being accepted to any of the above schools, and any input of additional schools I should consider. Here is a brief summary of my stats:

High School Stats:
Unweighted GPA (4-point scale) 3.69
Weighted GPA: 3.75
Class Rank: Top ~10%
Honors: Graduated with honors, National Honors Society, Scholars

SAT: 1400/2400

(The reason I scored low on my SAT, is I did not study for it and I was very nervous/could not think while taking the test. I feel like if I retook the test I could get ~1900+ range. This score poorly reflects my true potential. I did not retake the test, nor see a point since I am in community college.)

Community College:
GPA: 4.0
Credits: 30

I have not taken easy classes. I took advance math/physics courses and continue to score repeatedly at the top % in all of my courses.
I would like a variety of opinions, or comments that would increase my chances of getting accepted to UNC. Would it increase my chances if I maintained a 3.7+ GPA & transferred with 50 - 60 credits?

Hi CS07,
I am not any kind of expert on transferring. My son transferred after his soph year from WFU to UNC. His college gpa was 3.7. All I can tell you is what he read when researching transferring to UNC--in/out of state does not matter, transferring in as a junior little weigh given to HS, as a soph--more weight given to HS record. When we went to transfer orientation, it seemed like there was a significant number of CC transfers. Sorry couldn't help more.

I think you have an excellent shot all the colleges you listed with the exception of UNC. I'm not sure if UNC allows you waive the SAT if you completed a certain amount of credits, but if they do, I would try to go that route. I hope Elon isn't too stringent about the SAT because my scores are terrible and I'm applying there too.

Thank you mkm56 & bostonbene23. From what I understand, UNC looks at your high school record and your SAT scores stringently until you are a Junior. Elon requires only ~25 credits to transfer to be considered a Sophomore. I spoke with the admissions at Elon, and though they require you to send your SAT scores, the lady informed me that it would not be looked at too heavily after you receive ~25 credits. I will apply to UNC & all the other schools I listed as a Sophomore, if I am not accepted, I'll wait and reapply to all the said schools with ~54 - 60 credits. I'm sure my chances would increase if I did that. Though, I would like to know what my current chances are with my given stats with the listed schools above. Anymore input would mean a lot to me.

for me, that is such a relief about Elon. They had an IT glitch with my application. After I applied, they sent me an adobe copy of my application. The copy I received did not have my essay on it, nor did it have my signature. They are currently trying to resolve this dilemma. Hopefully this does not happen to your application.

did you get into unc? i'm a freshman at ncsu trying to transfer. my sat scores were like 1790, but I have a 3.5 at ncsu and was just admitted to their honors program. my hs gpa was a 3.8 unweighted. based on your responses, what do you think?
