Hey guys,
Long-time forum reader, first-time poster. I’m looking for peoples’ opinion as to whether I have any chances in being admitted as a transfer student to the University of Hawai’i at Manoa. Let me give you some background information. I went to college right after high school (like many people), but because I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do, I didn’t put a lot of effort into my classes. My transcripts often consisted of anything between an F and a C-. Well after that I took a break for about 7 years, did some international studies at language schools, and came back finally knowing what I wanted to do. For the past year I’ve been attending Bellevue College to save money and bulk up my GPA so that I have a reasonable chance of being able to transfer without needing to submit my testing scores (I’m not the best test-taker). Since coming back, I’ve consistently maintained straight A’s (my current GPA is 3.98) with credit workloads of 16-21 credits. I wanted to major in Korean, but unfortunately I was rejected from the UW. A week ago I found out about the Korean Flagship Center at Manoa, so I went ahead and applied. I’m worried not only because of my GPA history at the first college I attended, but also because of my post-deadline application. I confirmed with the admissions office that they are still accepting late application, but the rejection I received from the UW has really shattered my confidence that I’ll be able to transfer. If this doesn’t work out, I’ll probably attend another international school again, but I am really hoping that it does. What do you guys think? Do I have a chance?
Is your overall college GPA at least 2.50?
Yes, but I’m worried that the GPA from my first college will influence the decision, despite my current 3.98 GPA.
