Ahoy. I'm a high school senior near the top of my class and I'm thinking about a CCC to save a ton of money to apply to my masters or PhD. By the time I'd finish at a CCC, I would have met the IGETC for UC's, have great essays (I love to write), 200+ hrs comm service (over 2yrs at CCC), good work experience, good high school awards and stuff like that (if they count...), and I'm predicting a CCC GPA of 3.86 to 4.00. What would my chances be at:

UCB
UCLA
USC
Stanford
UCSD
Brown
Harvard (why not?)

Could you respond with that whole reach/slight reach/match kind of thing please? Thank you so much.

highschoolda: "why don't u earn some grades and attended few classes." All I am trying to do is get a feel. My GPA "projection" will be accurate. I've never received lower than a 4.2 in high school and would become even more committed than I already am knowing that my gpa (plus essays) would basically count for everything as a UC transfer. As for my major: English (something with creative writing.) Any other thoughts? Thanks.

From what ive gathered from this board, UCLA, USC,UCSD shouldnt be dofficult for you UCLA especially if you complete their TAP program. As far as Cal, I have heard it can be unpredictable, and forthe others I have no clue sorry.

The only other thing I can tell you is you should try and narrow it down to 3 schools or so so that you can take the apprapos classes that fufill both IGETC and the requirements of private Uni's.

If you are really "at the top of your class" then why not just get into a top UC now. Yeah, saving money is all good, but when you find yourself at CC and everyone else is off at the UC's havin fun, you'll wish you went. Take out some loans, get some grants, and go straight to the top.

prophasi has a good point. Since you state that 4.2 was ur lowest gpa and have good ec, u should have the edge to get every major scholarship, if not major u should have at least 60% of ur tuition paid.

I guess saving money is a valid reason.

Just keep in mind that majority of English classes at CCC are not at the level of the top uc that u aspire to attend. Not to mention they don't offer a broad choice.

As for my comments, i just feel it's premature to try to predict what ur stats will be in 2 years. Not to mention every year the applicant pool differs.

Thanks highschoolda. I know it's premature to predict my GPA, but I would be more focused than ever to do my absolute best at a CCC because it would mean everything! Yeah, I'm expecting to get into UCSD, UCD, UCSB, and UCSC, and get rejected from UCB and UCLA. Going to a CCC would save me money to continue my education and hopefully let me into UCB or UCLA. So I can go to UCSD, UCD, UCSB, or UCSC now or wait 2yrs then transfer to UCB, UCLA, USC, etc. Any thoughts?
