I am finishing my second semester of my first year of undergrad, currently at UC Berkeley. I began as a freshman in Fall 2014, and wasn’t enjoying it that much so I withdrew for the Spring semester and went on a 3 month long backpacking/outdoors/self-discovery trip in Utah. I am back this Fall, and things are certainly different. I’ve realized, however, that Berkeley just does not seem to be for me. I love New York, am studying Philosophy and (hopefully) Pure Math, and have a good friend at NYU who believes whole-heartedly that it is a great school/city/atmosphere for me.
TL;DR: Not liking Berkeley, think I’ll love NYU, wanna transfer for Fall 2016
Important stuff:
High School:
Prestigious, small private “magnet” HS
Mid-Top of class (we didn’t rank)
Probably around a 3.75 W/UW GPA (we didn’t really weight our AP’s at all)
7 AP classes, all A’s or high B+'s
SAT:
2280 SuperScore
800 Writing
750 Math
680 Reading
2210 Highest single-sitting
750 Math Level 2
700 AP Us History
650 Chemistry
College, so far:
Semester 1:
Math 1 (General Calc, even though I took AP BC): B+
Anthropology 3AC: A
Philosophy 25A (Ancient Greek): B
Semester 2 (projected, finals are next week):
Math 2 (Calc II): A (without a doubt)
Classics 10A: A-/B+
Neurobiology: B+
English 45A: Pass (Pass/fail course)
I am also a journalist at the Daily Californian and the Scholarship Chair of my Fraternity.
Essays will likely be strong. I’ve a lot to talk about, given my semi-unusual collegiate trajectory thus far, among other more personal things.
Does my rough first semester preclude me form NYU in the slightest? I’ve come to realize that it really is where I’d thrive. Not to mention their phenomenal Philosophy Department. That is my main focus.
Thanks all
