transfer chances -- please help

Hi,

I am currently a freshman looking to transfer to Grinnell. I spent my first semester at Indiana University, and currently are at my local community college for second semester.

some stats:

High School GPA: 3.5
ACT Score: 30
SAT Score: 1800
Extracurriculars: Football, Wrestling, Co-Editor High School newspaper, performed in several theatre productions, member of Mock Government, chair of homecoming committee for Student Council

Indiana GPA: 3.46
Classes Taken: Intro to Fiction, Arabic, Intro to Mass Comm, Research Techniques for Journalists

Projected Community College GPA: 3.2-3.5
Class: Psychology, Statistics, Creative Writing, Earth Science

i'm hoping to bank my chances on the essays. i love grinnell, its academics, the whole atmosphere the school promotes, etc. i'd like to think i'm a pretty good writer so...

other than that, i have my letters of recommendation from the head of the arabic program at IU and a ph.D candidate for english

you can private me if you want.

Cheers!

I don’t know about your chances, but they have a great Arabic prof at Grinnell. Everyone loves her. Good luck!

Transfer chances are kind of hard to predict because there aren’t the same number of slots every year like there are in freshman admissions, especially when we’re talking about a school like Grinnell with such a high retention rate. Send in the application, but be sure you have backups (or are willing to stay at IU if not).

yeah I agree that your chances are hard to predict. I think it might be a reach for you.

Quick note on the Arabic program at Grinnell. Even if you have taken Arabic before; don’t necessarily think you’ll be able to test out of Intro. Arabic is really tough at Grinnell, but it’s also a really good program. They are going to hire another professor for next year, so there’ll actually be more classes taught.
