Transfer Chances @ Rutgers NB & Camden

Hey all. :)

You might remember me from various threads I posted in last year. Long story short, I got rejected at five of my schools (my top five, in fact)- Bryn Mawr, F & M, Dickinson, U of Del and Ursinus (which was a surprise, because my stats were all within their average range). So I wound up going to a small college in western Maryland that gave me a small scholarship.

However, even with that scholarship, I'm still paying $27,000/year. I want to go to grad school and can't afford to spend so much on my undergrad. I want to transfer back to New Jersey for the in state tuition (I'm a resident; my parents still live there as well) to Rutgers (pref. New Brunswick campus). I also hate that my college is super small (only 1,500 undergrads) and isolated (45 minutes to Baltimore and DC).

Here are my stats:

High School:

GPA (weighted): 3.4
GPA (unweighted): 3.3
I also have two D-s on my transcript in German and Geometry my sophomore year. I believe this is probably what hurt me when applying last year.

AP Tests:
English Lit- 4
Psych- 4

SAT Scores:
Math: 500
Verbal: 700
Writing: 660
Essay: 10

ACT:
Composite: 28
English: 29
Math: 24
Science: 28
Reading: 31
English/Writing: 27

EC's (high school):
- Marching Band: 3 yrs, colorguard captain, soloist, varsity letter.
- Indoor Colorguard: 4 yrs, captain, soloist.
- Student Alliance (mentoring program): 2 yrs
- Literary Club: 3 yrs
- Youth Group: 2 yrs, mission trip coordinator
- Jersey Surf Drum and Bugle Corps (high competitive all state marching group): 1 yr

Awards (high school):
- Walt Whitman Poetry Contest: honorable mention, judged by Rutgers Camden English professor and Rutgers English students.
- DECA (National Association of Marketing Students): Highest test score regionally, highest test score states, highest roleplay score states, state finalist.
- Tri-M Music Honor Society- 1 year

College Stats:

I'm only a freshman and I haven't even finished a semester yet, hence I have no grades to show. However, I've been consistently getting high Bs and As in all my classes.

Fall Semester courses:
PE 123- Ballet Basics (estimated grade- A)
Latin 101 (estimated grade- was an 86 at midterms... should stay a B if I do well on the final)
Psych Statistics 211 (estimated grade- high B)
English (writing about literature) 133 (estimated grade- A)
Biology 113 (estimated grade- high B)
Total- 14 credits

Spring Semester courses:
ENSP 101- Environmental Problems
LWPS 230- Intro to Law
ENGL 223- Victorian Lit
Latin 102
ART 221- Art History II
HIST 206- History of Modern Europe
Total- 18 credits

I don't do many ECs in college. I'm a photographer for the school newspaper and have a small portfolio. I also work 20 hours a week at a local coffeeshop.

So.. chances? I'm applying as an English major to both the New Brunswick and Camden campuses.

bump 10 chars :)

you should get into both without any sort of problems whatsoever.

yeah i agree. you should have no trouble getting in to rutgers new brunswick and i would know because i go there. :)

Backtothestars, it's me, Joycelene from the BMC board last year!!! I didn't know you were rejected -- I'm so sorry!!! I'm NOT transferring out of BMC since I had to turn it down (which sucked a lot :/) I followed the money so yeah. Lovely. I have nothing really more to say other than GL to you this time around :D

Rutgers is an extremely easy school to get into if in-state.

yea, I got rejected outta HS, its getting harder.....but its still pretty easy for transfer. Also, if your looking at camden, consider newark. the area is MUCH nicer then the camden area. NB is best though. The Rutgers area in NB has the highest concentration of STD's in the northeast next to montreal....so watch out. The area in camden your likely to get killed though.

so get killed or infected?

Hey Joycelene! I remember you. ^^ Yup, I did get rejected. I got rejected like... everywhere, and that's no exaggeration. Following the money is exactly what I'm doing right now... wherever's cheapest is best so that I can go to a good grad school (hopefully).

Pretty much everyone in my senior class got into Rutgers. Smart kids, dumb kids, stoner kids.. everyone. I was just a little concerned because I'm transferring and I would assume that it's a bit harder to get in as a transfer.

Thanks for the advice, cpenn... I only applied to Camden because if worst comes to worst I could always take the train in or drive, I don't think I'd want to live on campus. I've been there before- beautiful campus, but the moment you step off of it... well, it's Camden, what more can I say. :D Newark is a bit far from home for me (I live about twenty minutes outside of Philly, on the Jersey side).
