transfer chances to stanford??

I know this may be a bit of a stretch but I've been thinking recently that I would like to transfer to stanford and would just like some opinions about my chances.

Currently a freshman at Bucknell University with a 3.92gpa taking not flimsy courses.

I am the assisant capatin of the riding team, treasurer of the students helping animals club, and a darkroom monitor for photography club.

Technically I am undeclared, but I plan to major in Economics (you have to apply into the major here, you can't just declare it) with a minor in English (creative writing) and maybe philosophy.

1410 on SAT (650 math, 760 verbal) SAT2's: 720, 670, 640, 630, roughly a 3.4 hs gpa from a very difficult HS who has an excellent and well established relationship with stanford.

What do you think my chances are?? Thanks!

bump......

Anyone have an opinion?

Go for it, with your gpa I think you have a competitive chance.

your SATs might be a bit low, but I think you have a good chance (my stats are very similar to yours.

best of luck to both of us eh?)

I think you have a decent chance at best. Stanford is pretty rough on transfers, and although you have a good GPA now it has to make up for only a decent SAT score, okay SAT2s, and not amazing high school grades. You have a chance though, so its totally worth applying. I would also look at Brown and Cornell as the easiest top 10 schools to get into, and also maybe Dartmouth and Penn where you have a shot.

The percentage of accepted transfers is quite low so it'll be tough but not impossible. Your essays may carry the day for you -- as well as somehow establishing a personal contact with the riding program. May be worth a trip out there after the application's in.

I'm also friends with people who are involved with the photography program there, if that makes any difference. Plus, one of my HS teachers who was more like a friend than anything is a stabford grad all the way up to her masters. Would it make a difference to have her write me a supplemental rec (she taught me for 3 years and wrote one of the regular college recs, so she knows me better than my college profs)?

thanks for the input!

The rec would help, but a visit & personal contact would be preferred -- go home for spring break & pay a visit, but set it up beforehand -- good luck -- it's a fabulous place!!
