Transfer 'Chances' to UCLA from a CC

Hey guys. After looking around the forums and talking to some people who I know who've transferred to UCLA, I'm feeling a bit frustrated. My CC - Sierra College, up near Sacramento - doesn't seem to offer the things that everyone says 'got them in'. The two main things that worry me are prereqs and the TAP. Sierra doesn't offer a couple of the prereqs for Comms, and the TAP isn't offered either. It just irks me to know that if I had started out at a different CC, I would be pretty much guaranteed admission. Anyways, in regards to what I have going for me, I'll have a 4.0 GPA, I'm in PTK, I'm the president of a community service club (Circle K), and I'm 17 - I graduated early from high school, so I figure that might bolster my essay a bit. I was just wondering if anyone had any advice on things I could do to improve my chances, though I figure it's a bit late as I'll be applying this coming Fall, or just what you think my chances are of being accepted into the Communications program.

I went to Folsom Lake College (really close to Sierra College) and I got into UCLA with a lower gpa, no PTK, no TAP, BUT I did have my prereqs completed. Really, this is the most important part. Missing the other stuff wont hurt you.

Ah, okay. Well, Sierra doesn’t offer some of the classes that I need, but I’ve heard that UCLA won’t count that against me since I have no way of taking them. Thanks for your help, definitely interesting to hear. What was your major?

I went to American River in Sacramento and am transferring to UCLA with a 3.8 GPA, no TAP, all my pre-reqs, and as a film major. What specific courses aren’t offered at Sierra? I know that, for ARC, you can take some courses not offered on campus at other locations.

It’s the Intro to Communications and one about Linguistics/Language. They offer the language class at ARC, so I was going to take it there, but there was a wait list of 20 people by the time I was able to register (since it was my first class at ARC).

I took classes at ARC, FLC, SCC, and CRC. The commute is definitely worth it to get those classes.

Hmm. Well, the only one that has one of the classes I need is ARC, so I guess I’ll stick myself on the wait list just for kicks since I guess it’s more important than I realized. Thanks for the input.

Yeah ARC super close to Sierra anyway. Remember to show up for the first day, obviously. Good luck.

my school didn’t have tap, and i only completed 2 of the 4 prereqs. and i got into ucla. (also berk, though i had all their prereqs done)

Cool, thanks for all the help everyone. Hopefully it all works out.

Complete all the requirement classes and you will get in for sure. Got in UCLA CompSci (12% admission rate) with 3.8 and 1 missing math class (Discrete).

Tap certification does not help for Comm major… just fyi- If you have a 4.0 and ALL prereqs completed you shouldn’t need Tap anyway… especially with those EC’s… good luck! get your prereqs completed… :)

Are you an officer in your ptk chapter?

@argothiusz, thanks for the advice, congrats!
@shawneee, oh, really? I had no idea, haha.
@Cupertinotransfr, no. I’m really not all that active - I’m much more involved with Circle K, and I feel like it’s basically the same thing (except we actually do a lot more service, if I can say that).

Seems like the resounding message is to complete all the prereqs. Since I’ve got no way of taking either of the two classes I need - none of the schools near me offer them, either - hopefully they take into consideration the fact that they aren’t offered at my school.

Does anyone know if they do take that into consideration? I’m afraid it’s all going to be for naught because I wasn’t able to take those classes.
