Hi everyone, first message on the board yay! Anyway I am a 21 year student who lives in NYC and goes to a CC. I started out with a 4.0, then a 3.15 and now and down to a 2.66. Bad I know. But I want to know if I have a realistic chance at transferring anyway for the fall 2011. I must mention that I had flunked out of my first school after two semesters and decided to just come home and work for a year or so. I have one semester left at the CC before I hope to transfer and hopefully get it up to a 3.1 or above. I am not shooting for top-notch schools. Just a bunch of state schools.
Major:Human Resources Management(I know, I know, I just really want to go into this)
G.P.A:2.66
Schools:
SUNY Oswego
UMass Dartmouth
Idaho State University
Boise State University
Utah State University
Franklin University
Wright State University
Niagara University
Seton Hill University
Ferris State University
DePaul University
IUPUI
Purdue University
Ohio State University
Ohio University
Michigan State
Boston College(most likely no chance to get into the last 6, but I will still apply)
I am desperate to get out of my house. I have a really disruptive home life and am tired all of the arguing about not being able to pay for things and money issues. I never fully developed good study skills, I don't know how to really study at all, which probably contributed in me getting such low grades. I know these are all excuses, but any help someone can give me would be much appreciated. Happy New Year!

How would you pay for these colleges. Unfortunately, there’s little or no aid for OOS transfers. CUNYs and SUNYs are probably your best bet.

Yeah the thing is I don’t really want or don’t want to at all go to SUNY Oswego. I have been to the campus and it’s small and I really dislike the dorms. It’s just a bedroom and everything else is shared. And the campus food isn’t really good and the area sucks. Not all of the schools on my list are oos publics.

I am not really familiar with these schools but i am from MA. And you have a shot at UMASSD especially since your out of state and will pay OOS tuition. As for BC, sorry but you dont have a chance at all- trying to not sound mean…Maybe try college board for schools with that gpa range. BUT GOOD LUCK!

Yeah I am pretty sure I would not get into BC, but I am hoping to get my G.P.A up a couple points before the fall. The thing is I don’t even want to go to that school, but I figured they can only accept or reject me.

Some of these schools are probably not worth attending. My advice would be to get into your state’s least selective satellite campus, keep a high GPA, and then transfer to the main campus.

Maybe you can get into a weaker New Jersey campus and transfer to Rutgers. What about Penn State Palo Alto -> main Penn State campus?

Bump bump bump

Oh and al new york doesn’t have a satellite campus and it’s debatable which is the best. I am considering those schools because they have my exact major and only one school in the SUNY system also has it.

Speaking as an alum, I would recommend the University of Idaho over either ISU or BSU if you’re considering the state. A much better campus environment and college experience than either of those two schools, situated in a real college town. Higher graduation rates, too.

You definitely have a shot of getting into one of those schools. Except for BC and MSU.

Bottle, I’m pretty sure of that, I’m just nervous now because I don’t want to end up settling going to a school that I don’t want to. Ohio State was my first choice but unless I get my grades up it won’t happen and as I explained earlier I have no interest in going to a SUNY school.

You can probably get into one of the easier and more expensive OOS school.

To:al6200
The OP has a very slim chance transferring to rutgers with that GPA so that is out of the question.

You can probably get into Ohio state, UMASS at dartmouth, Boise state. Pretty much every school you listed including MSU(sorry i wasn’t aware I wrote MSU in my previous post). Their transfer rate is pretty high. 70% +
Try to visit or look up threads about the school you want to go to. See if the students like it or not.

I recommend visiting the campus.

Do your best next semester and start your application now.

Good luck.

What about Rutgers Camden or Newark, stay for a year with a high GPA, and then transfer to the flagship campus?

I would definitely recommend this strategy since it gives you the safest and least expensive path to a top 50 school.

I would recommend IUPUI!!
