Sorry to be that guy begging haha but it had to be done :)

So i actually just finished year 2 at UCSB, but due to medical problems i took a reduced load this year and had to drop out in spring. I am doing pre-economics/accounting. I enjoy accounting but really do not enjoy economics and would rather take courses more practical and applicable to a future job. I plan on taking a medical leave next year and taking classes at my local CC. Here are my stats and UCSB and my hopeful stats at CC.

UCSB: (67 quarter credits) 3.24 GPA...took 2 Calc, 1 stat, 1 Macroeconomics, 1 accounting, and 2 Microeconomic courses.

CC: 3.8-4.0 GPA (24-28 semester credits) plan on taking Marketing, Accounting, and other business courses

I will be applying for Business and going for an accounting emphasis. I read the transfer rate is only 19% which is really competitive, but hopefully having a rigorous course load and decent gpa at UCSB, along with nearly perfect grades at CC in more applicable classes would help me out? Any comments or suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

Where is your CC located? Is it in the SD area?

no my CC is in Los Angeles County. i have emailed SDSU admissions twice but they haven’t been too helpful. Do you know if you can appeal to show your spring semester grades? I did the math and my GPA will be a 3.46 if I get straight A’s first semester, and 3.57 if I get straight A’s 2nd semester. I will have an upward trend if that factors in as well.

@ Sourpatch,

SDSU had a ton of applications last year (~ 75,000, I think…). Their 2010 published acceptance rate was 30%. I’m sure it’s a bit lower this year. To put that into perspective, I had some friends get rejected with 3.7-4.0 GPA’s & all prereqs completed. With that, they were getting accepted to places like UCSD, UCSB, UCI, both Cal Poly’s, etc. And, these were all folks in the San Diego area. It’s crazy (but good, IMO) how competitive this school is now. I chose this school over UCSD, while getting accepted to UCLA & UCSB as well (…though I would have gone to LA, relocation was not an option for me).

Not trying to derail your life train here, I’m just trying to give some honest feedback. The only thing you can do is bring & keep the GPA up, then apply. Best of luck with your endeavors.

Also, what do you mean by a CCC “3.8-4.0” GPA?

@USMCtoUC: last part was my estimate because I think CC will be fairly easy for me after being at UCSB. thanks for your input, Slo is actually my top choice so I hope that works out. Worst comes to worst I end up going back to UCSB which isnt bad at all. Wish I had chosen a place with business out of high school though because I got into slo and sdsu honors.

haha its cool i appreciate the honest feedback im not the type who thinks their life is over after getting rejected to a school. Im applying to like 10 places so it should work out for the best. i wish sdsu didnt look at my UCSB gpa as the same as a CC gpa though (they told me thats what they do) because to be honest im content with my 3.24 i worked hard for it haha.
