Transfer Chances?

I applied to UMass last year and got accepted into the business school, but ended up choosing to go to Clemson University. I had a 1920 SAT score (710 math 650 writing 560 critical reading) and a 4.2733 GPA in high school. I was the president of the engineering and design club at my high school and participated in speech in debate, the peer tutor program, and a sports specialties camp. I also worked as a baseball umpire, a nursing home secretary, and started my own landscaping business. In college, I'm currently pledging a fraternity (if that helps at all). I'm taking 14 credits right now and my projected grades are Calc (A), Econ (B+), Psych (A), Geology (B), Geology Lab (B+), and Business (B+). I called today and even though the deadline was October 1st, they will still consider my application, it will just be after all those who made the deadline. They said it will be more difficult, but I was wondering how difficult it will be? Do you think I still have a shot to transfer for the spring semester? Thanks for any help in advance!

What is your GPA at Clemson?

If it is similar to this semester, which looks to be in the 3.5-3.6 area, you should have a pretty good chance. The fact that they are still willing to take your app after the deadline is a good sign I think.

After 3 semesters at Clemson, you should have enough credits that UMass won’t require SAT scores and a HS transcript, although they won’t hurt you since they are pretty good.

I’m a first semester freshman at Clemson so I don’t have an official GPA yet, but using the online calculator I would have a 3.4. The GPA system here is that a 90-100 is an A (4.0), an 80-89 is a B (3.0), 70-79 is a C (2.0). I don’t think UMass will take this into account because it will be me just unofficially reporting my grades. Do you think getting accepted last year into Isenberg will work to my advantage when applying?

Sorry, when you said you got accepted last year, I assumed you matriculated last year.

It certainly can’t hurt that you got into Isenberg last year. They will look at all the same high school stuff again, since you don’t have many credits.

What is so bad about Clemson that you want to transfer after only two months?

It’s not really anything that bad about Clemson. I just miss Massachusetts and would probably enjoy UMass more at a cheaper price.

I read that the mean GPA for students who transfer within UMass to Isenberg is a 3.72. Is this the same for someone who is transferring from a different school?

Does anyone know when we should be hearing back?

Friend of S found out about transferring from a Philly school. He like you was accepted last year. You should call as they will be working on class of 2018 admissions.Good luck.

What should I say when I call admissions? I called them earlier this week and they said my application was still just “under review”.
