Hi guys, this is my first post here so I’m kind of new to this. I’m concerned about my chances of being accepted to UT Austin. Admittedly, I probably shouldn’t, but I’m going to be really anxious about if I get accepted or not unless it’s guaranteed that I’ll be accepted. I’m currently a freshman at UT Arlington with Philosophy as my major. Last semester, I had a 4.0 GPA, but this semester I’ll probably have 2 Bs and if that happens my Final GPA will be 3.8 exactly (I might be able to bring one up to an A by the end of the semester which would make my GPA a 3.9 instead, but I can’t guarantee that) and I’ll have 32 hours. From what I’ve heard, 3.6 is the average GPA for COLA, but I’ve also heard that UT doesn’t like downward GPA trends and that it’s been getting harder to transfer to UT in the past year or two. And I don’t know if this makes a difference, but I’m not in any honors classes and one of the two classes I’ll likely end up having a B in is the only philosophy class I’ve taken my freshman year. Does it matter if I get a B in the only class that’s my major? In addition to my GPA, I have 1 letter of recommendation, two essays that are good but not extraordinary, average extracurricular activities during high school and barely any at college. Soo what are my chances of being accepted into UT? Thanks in advance.
You should have a good shot at getting accepted with a 3.8, and a very good chance with a 3.9. If you aren’t accepted this semester I’d urge you to wait another semester with good grades. Most of the problems people have getting accepted with high gpa’s are in the college of engineering and for computer science majors for which it’s practically impossible. I’m certain COLA accepts the largest number of transfer applicants by far and with your gpa so far above the average you’re practically a shoe in.
Thanks for the reply. My concern is that by the time they receive my final transcript, they’ll have accepted so many transfer applicants already from people with over 30 hours that I might not get accepted just because they’ve already accepted so many applicants.
Hi I have a question. I’m currently a freshman at Duke and I applied to MIT for transfer. I was accepted to MIT last year as a high school senior but didn’t go cause I was early decision at Duke. How much do you think it will help that MIT already accepted me in the past?
@maxi31796 Did you mean to post your question here? This is a forum for The University of Texas at Austin.
They should reserve a number of spaces for people in your situation, I wouldn’t think that would be a problem. There probably won’t even be many people accepted before your transcript for this semester goes out.
