My d applied to Oxy freshman year and got in, but attended another college. She is now considering transferring to Oxy. Are her chances any better considering she was already accepted before?
Yes, She should be fine as long as her grades in college were deemed acceptable. (3.3 plus is what i’d say but i have been wrong before so keep the GPA up)
I would say anyone who has applied and been accepted before has a good chance of getting in again. Visiting the campus and getting in contact with Oxy admissions shows your interest, and would definitely help your chances. A GPA higher than a 3.0 is definitely encouraged, anything higher than a 3.5 should pretty much guarantee admission.
Hi everyone, I am in the same boat MassAnonymous. I got into Occidental as a freshman and declined and have applied to transfer for fall 16.
My SAT score was strong 2140 and I don’t remember my high school GPA
My current GPA is 3.68 and I have taken a full course load both this semester and last. I have been very involved on campus holding leadership positions in a couple clubs and organizations and focused a lot of time on interning and getting professional experience. I really hope I get in I’d Love to transfer there
Hi applicant1000 and trnsfringgg, Would you tell us why you or your daughter wanted to transfer back to Oxy? Which college are you attending currently? My daughter got accepted to Oxy and we were deciding whether an LAC or a public school is better for education. Oxy will cost us more for sure but if the academics are good, we are willing to do the sacrifice. I heard it’s hard to get into Oxy these days, comparable to CMC.
Hi oxyparent,
After visiting oxy again I realized it is very very diverse and a great place for a productive exchange of ideas and thoughts. I think it is a great place to grow as a student as their students seem to have a great curiosity to actually learn and no one seems to be there just to get a degree and that is the time of learning environment I am hoping for
For those students considering transferring to Oxy who believe the campus is extremely diverse: it may be ethnically diverse, but that is where the diversity ends. Oxy is extremely liberal, and any conservatives at Oxy have gone into hiding. Students are very like-minded, and have the mindset that their liberal beliefs are the only beliefs people should have. If you dissent politically with an Oxy student, they will make your life hell.
Hi oxyparent. My daughter is going to one of the UC schools mainly due to better funding… they offered a scholarship whereas Oxy offered financial aid, but we were worried it wouldn’t continue throughout all 4 years since we didn’t really seem to qualify for it, yet they were offering it. With the influx of additional students next year at all the UC’s(governor of CA talked president of UC’s to take 5,000 additional students next year and 5,000 more in the next couple years)and not really the infrastructure to handle more students we are feeling she’s not getting the education we are paying for. We are out of staters so paying private school rates for a UC. It does seem like the kids are a number on such a big campus and we’d really like for her to have a smaller campus experience where professors really know and care about their students.
