Transfer chances?

UT is my dream school and I didn’t apply as a freshman because I’m a horrible high school student. My GPA sits at a little over 3.5, I did marching and concert band and played 3 different instruments and held officer positions. I’m on the dance team, and this is my first year holding an officer position, I have a full time job and I am the assistant manager, I did a community service club, I’ve taken a total of 12 AP/honors classes speech and debate, theatre arts, art, Girl Scouts and I was involved in my school’s video announcement crew. But my SAT scores were horrible, like 1350 was my best one with writing. So I decided to just try and transfer in after a year or so at a Community College. Throughout high school my mother was diagnosed with cancer, I got a job and I started working, I wasn’t as involved as I would have liked to have been in my extracurriculars and although a 3.5 isn’t that bad, I know I could’ve done a lot better if I focused solely on my grades, my SAT scores too. I’m really going to get it together in community college though, over the summer I’ve been looking to do some volunteer work, and I’m getting a tutor to help me with school. I want to major in film production or screenwriting, but if I don’t get into the program which is highly competitive, I plan on doing another major and taking classes at Austin Film School, or maybe taking it as minor and majoring in something at the Liberal Arts college. I was just wondering how had it is to transfer into Moody and COLA? What’s the average GPA, what does the résumé look like?

Your resume isn’t that important as a whole. The most important factor will be your GPA, by far. The average GPA for people accepted into COLA is about a 3.6, and a 3.8+ would make you pretty much a lock. I’m fairly certain that Moody is more difficult, like the average GPA is more like 3.8 for transfers, but I’m not entirely sure about that. Have you thought about taking a gap year? It might be beneficial to clear your head before starting CC instead of jumping right into it. You can read during the gap year and improve your writing skills as well.
