Transfer chances???

Hey guys! I’m planning applying for admission for fall 2017 at UW. Problem with that is I don’t exactly have the best stats. Which leads me to worrying about even being accepted since I have such a weird record. Basically I never took school seriously did bad in high school and got a 2.4 gpa. I took AP classes and honors through out all of it. Junior and senior year though I let my grades suffer. Then came college I thought could start over. Wrong I still wasn’t mature enough to handle school. I was lazy and let having a bf distract me. I started in 2013 winter and stopped talking classes winter 2015 because I was all over the place. By this time I had received 2 Ws(not for bad grades I just missed the deadline like an idiot) , 1 NC (taking 4 classes and working 40 plus hours was insane, so the teacher gave me NC since I was in good standing.) and 2 Retakes (1.0 - 3.1) and (1.7 - 3.3) I also had a crappy 2.9 gpa. I felt like college isn’t the best fit for me at this point. So I stopped taking classes and took a year off. I came back 2015 spring only once again to mess up. Got a 2.9, 3.2, and for the first time I failed a class 0.0. Dropping my already sad gpa to a 2.7. Once again I’m just like why bother with college. So I take another year off. This is when I really wised up, I broke up with my toxic bf, finally could stop working over 40 hours a week because my mom had revived a job offer so I no longer was needed so heavily. I made good friends that encouraged me to go bad to school one last time. The problem this time wasn’t the fact that I worked crazy hours, ( although I still work at least 35) or that I didn’t study. My mistake was signing up for a math class after being gone for so long and not remembering a thing about it. The math was below college level, yet no matter how much I tried to understand I couldn’t do it, it wasn’t until the end of the quarter I finally got the hang of it and got an A on an exam. By then my grade was set in stone for a 1.3. The other two classes I took I got a 3.7 and 3.9.
Next came summer quarter 2016 I took a college level math course now, and two other classes receiving a 3.42 grade for the quarter.
Currently fall 2016: retaking the class I failed in spring 2015, and two other classes. I plan to receive at least a 3.8 this quarter.
Next quarter is my last winter 2017: taking three classes and one of them is a retake for a previous bad grade when I first started.

In doing all of this I’m projecting to raise my gpa from a 2.7 in spring 2015 - to a 3.5 gpa graduate 2017 winter.

Sorry for the huge explanation about my grades.

Here’s my stats:
Credits: completed Tranafer degree
Major: anthropology which is an open major at UW.
Cumulative gpa: 3.5
High school: 2.4
Weakness: 2 W, 1 NC, 5 Retakes, long breaks in between finishing.
Strengths: upward grade trend in the last 45 credits and 3 quarters.

Applying for: Fall 2017 UW Seattle and Tacoma.
Personal statement: Extremely strong (Checked by writing center, 3 professors, 2 advisors) main points: Hispanic, having to take care of my family since I was 18, new maturity and approach to school.

Basically I’m super worried I won’t get into UW

Transfer admissions and college admissions in general are never an exact science, but I truly believe you have a chance! You clearly have a strong story and have really matured as a person (which is definitely something to be proud of), and your cumulative GPA at a 3.5 is about average. Clearly you’re a student who had trials and tribulations, but did not let those stop you, and as a result I’d say you have a chance. Your chance could be stronger if you are prepared to enter a major at UW. If you mind me asking, what major are you interested in pursuing and what classes have you taken to prepare you for that major?

Thanks for the input! Im planning on majoring in anthropology which is an open major at UW. So I’m assuming I would be accepted into it if I gained admission at UW. I’ve taken higher psychology classes, and anthropology. Originally I was trying to major in psychology but the prerequisite I’m missing is only offered at UW.

Considering you want to apply for Fall 2017 admission, take a look at this (https://admit.washington.edu/apw/ANTH.pdf). This is an academic planning worksheet provided by the UW which shows which classes are necessary to enter your major. Just make sure you chock your next 2 or 3 quarters full of these, and I think you’ll be in great shape! Also, if you are interested in majoring in psych but that isn’t offered at your school, I highly recommend you still apply for that major, as not having that class offered at your current school is a reason recognized by UW admissions for not having completed that class.
