Transfer Chances?

Hey, everyone. I’m a current freshman at the University of Tampa and I’m hoping to transfer to NC State for Fall 2017 (sophomore). What are my chances of being accepted with a college GPA of 3.7 through one semester? I’m applying as a marketing major and I will have 30 credit hours by the end of this year.

I’m not sure how closely they look at high school performance, but my GPA was 3.3 and I scored 1600 on my SAT’s (including writing).

Thank you!

Warning: I am also applying for next fall, so my advice may not be as good as others.

As long as you took calculus I and English in the first semester, you should be good. I spoke to someone who dealt with transfer students, and she said that those who have a 3.65 or higher GPA are almost guaranteed acceptance.

I do have two concerns, however. Looking at the transfer equivalencies (which I got from here:https://www.acs.ncsu.edu/php/transfer/), none of the English classes at Tampa directly transfer as NC State’s ENG 101. I would email NCSU about that. You also have, I’m assuming, 15 credits completed from the fall semester, which means that NC State requires you to send your high school transcript and test scores. I frankly do not know if having less than 30 credits completed by the fall semester hurts you or not, but I have read incidents where people who went to a community college for one semester transferred to NC State with only 15 credits (but had a 4.0).

Don’t worry about the high school stuff. The admission officer told me that they completely skip over high school transcripts, scores, and even the written portion that is required on the common app. She basically said that they go straight to the college transcript to look at the grades, and determine if someone gets in with that. They do look at the written portion for some cases, but you are not one of those cases. I hope this helped.

@gbrl10 This was ver helpful. Thank you so much!

@gbrl10 Do you remember you talked with about transfer admissions? If you could let me know, that would be great.

Sorry, no. I’m trying to find pictures of the admissions team, but I can’t find any. Why do you ask?

I am applying to transfer to NC State for the fall of 2017 as well. I’m a current freshman and after spring semester I will have 34 credits. I have a 2.67 GPA and applied to the environmental sciences, which has a GPA requirement of 2.5.

Do you have a Student ID on wolf paw?

@PStransfer1842 I don’t know who you were asking, but I’ll just reply anyway. I do have a student ID on my wolf paw, but I think every applicant gets that. I believe when I applied the first time in high school, I had a student ID too.

Everybody gets a student id on wolfpaw

Do y’all have a decision date yet? We’re getting close!

@PStransfer1842 nope. I also applied to unc chapel hill, they are releasing their decision tomorrow .

I’m attending UNCC and applied to transfer for Electrical engineering with a 3.62 GPA. Have a little over 30 credit hours. What do y’all think?

@ncstudent77 I would say pretty good. If it was a non-engineering major I’d say you’d be almost guaranteed. They said on their website that the GPA (for admitted transfer students) for the middle 50 was 3.4-3.8, so as long as your 30 credit hours has physics and stuff, you should be solid.

@gbrl10 do you know how competitive electrical engineering is at state? As a transfer?

@ncstudent77 I’m not sure exactly. I’m guessing it’s competitive but not as competitive as mechanical, civil, and chemical since the GPA requirement for those are 3.5 (https://■■■■■■/12VRQ6) versus the 3.0 requirement for electrical.
