Hello! I was accepted into Bryn Mawr as a senior in high school, but because of financial aid issues, I was unable to attend. I am currently studying Political Science at UCSD, but Bryn Mawr is my dream school so I’m trying to reapply as a transfer.
I took 10-11 honors and AP Classes in high school and passed all of them except one. (I was an AP Scholar with Honors)
My unweighted HS GPA was around 3.6-3.7 and weighted was around 4.1-4.2
My ACT was a 30
I was a varsity athlete for cross country and track all four years, with 3 MVP awards and school records
I was in student council for four years, did tutoring, NHS, CSF, Philosophy club, Academic Decathlon, girl scouts and more
The only caveat is that I was diagnosed with depression my junior year and my grades dropped my last two years of high school (I think I got a C at one point).
At UCSD I am in a service club and the Freshman Representative in student council. I got a 3.66 my first quarter (I only took 3 classes and got an A, A-, and a B+). My grades should be a bit higher this quarter.
I’m really worried about not getting in as a transfer and I was wondering if any transfers at BMC could comment on my stats/give any advice? What is the transfer experience like?
it looks like no one knows the answer to your question. Congratulations on your first acceptance! It’s so hard that you weren’t able to attend because of finances before. I’m sure that you tried everything, because you are persistent and smart. Best of luck with this new effort. I’d be interested to find out what happens.
right. we don’t know. but i think they took about 6 transfers last year (or maybe that’s how many actually transferred, more were probably offered transfer admission); either way it’s tough odds unfortunately. admissions at places like bryn mawr are a black box; and no one knows how they make their decisions.
Bryn Mawr accepted 17 transfers last year, and 7 chose to attend. There were 129 applicants, so that means they have about a 13% acceptance rate. I don’t know if this includes McBride scholars, which means they accept an even lower rate of traditional transfers.
In other words, the stats are great for anyone, but I think the fact that you were already accepted and are clearly still interested in that dream will work in your favor.
hey! i think that since you were previously accepted, you have a strong chance at being accepted for transferring. keep your grades up and keep making connections with professors or staff that could write you good recommendations! we have had transfers from all over the US, and they have all said it was the best decision and fit in on campus beautifully good luck but don’t stress out too much!
@voguescholar Are you saying that with the credibility of an admissions officer? I do think that the op has a great case for being accepted (previously accepted, still loves the college), but I also know people who were previously accepted and later rejected for transfer. To say that “you have a strong chance” without any evidence is a bit misleading. I also hope that the op gets accepted, and think that they would make a great addition to campus. But I can’t give them a sense of whether or not they’ll be admitted - transfer apps are sometimes a crapshoot given the few number of slots.
Thank you for your input! I got a 3.8 last quarter which will bring my cumulative GPA to 3.733, which I hope will help. I guess I just have to wait and find out!
