I am going to be a freshman next year at The United States Merchant Marine Academy at King's Point. I'm not sure how I am going to like it and would like to keep my options open such as transfering home to places like: Boston College, Harvard, Northeastern, Providence College, Boston University, Bentley, or Babson.

My grades are:
3.7 High School GPA
3.9 Prep School GPA

Very good EC's

Low SAT's 590 m: 510 v and w.

I know that most all these schools are deff reaches but I was wandering what my chances would be as a transfer student from a U.S. Service Academy would be like.

ggspin, STAY AT KINGS POINT! KP is a tradition. I wish I had gone. my dad's a King's Pointer 77'. Where else can you see the world (for free) before you are 22. Fair winds, flowing seas, my friend.

A few thoughts. [ul][]I would echo july4 to some extent. Head to Kings Point with a positive attitude and plan to like it. Become fully engaged there. Only think about a transfer if it really isn't working for you.[]The only commonality I see in your potential transfer schools is the location. Would you really be happy at schools as different as Northeastern and Harvard? Give some further thought to that if you do decide to transfer. [] If you try to transfer after Freshman year, your SAT scores will weigh heavily in your admissions chances. Your scores are almost within the 25-75% range at a few of your schools, but totally out of range for Harvard and fairly far off for BC and BU. Approaches to mitigating this include:[]Wait until after your sophomore year when some schools won't require them and all schools will consider them somewhat less.[]Consider schools which are totally SAT/ACT optional http://www.fairtest.org. In Massachusetts, these include Holy Cross and Wheaton. Your hs record will make you much more competitive at such schools. You may find others you like in other New England states.[]It's true that a number of applicants without the "stats" get into each of these schools each year. But for those schools where your stats are way off, you would need something very special for them to admit you. Just coming from the MMA wouldn't be that "something," I don't think.[*]While at Kings Point, be sure to develop strong relationships with a professor or two - excellent recommendations will help a lot if you do decide to transfer.[/ul]I know there are valid reasons to transfer (my S is doing it, which is why I hang out a bit on the Transfer Board ;) ), but I hate to see a kid head off to school already planning that it won't work. Good luck either way.

Thank you all very much for the help I was just seeing what my options are. I am excited to go to King's Point but with that I'm leaving a lot behind and it's kind of hard to let it all go for awhile....
