Just curious what my transfer chances are for W&M. I will be applying for Spring 2007 admission. Is Spring Transfer more or less competitive than Fall Transfer?

Im a Sophomore Mechanical Engineering student at Virginia Tech. At the end of this semester, I will have completed 60 credits.

I really want to get into W&M, so I was wondering which majors have the highest admittance rate?

College: Virginia Tech College of Engineering
Major: Mechanical Engineering
College GPA: 3.1
HS GPA: 3.76

*More competitive
*I don't think major matters on difficulty, just make sure you've completed prereqs if there are any.
*Overall the college has around 52% admittance rate for transfers.
*A 3.1 is pretty low, but from Virginia Tech I think you'll get in as they should realize the quality of the school you attend.

Does anyone know if spring is more or less competitive than fall for transfers?

Also, does it help your chances to apply to a specific major? For example, would one have a better chance of being accepted if they were to apply as a physics major rather than a business major?

but you do know that W&M does not offer an engineering major, right? (though we do have some 3+2 programs I believe). I assume you no longer wish to major in engineering.

It would seem that, as a male applicant, you would have a better shot at getting in. The 3.1 isn't bad coming from an engineering major, but it isn't amazing, either. From the cases I've seen involving friends and family members, I'd say that you have a solid chance of getting in.

The only thing that kinda scares me is that W&M states on their website that they look for GPAs from 3.6 and above. Also, the website states that they look for general education requirements...meaning more of a liberal arts based course of study at your previous college.

The guy was instate and hadn't declared a major.

The fact that you're OOS won't help you, but your rigorous coursework and the fact that you're a male applicant will help. It's probably a toss-up. What other schools are you applying to? Make sure to cast a broad net.

I plan on applying to W&M, UVA, and University of Richmond. Of those schools, which one do you think I would have the best chance of being admitted?

You'd have the best shot at Richmond, probably. Your chances for spring admission at UVA are next to nil - UVA admits very few for the spring semester (compared to a lot for the fall). I'm not sure about spring vs fall admission at W&M.

sorry for hijacking the thread, but i'm in the same boat, sort of. I go to an engineering school and have about the same gpa's from college and high school. I will have 55 credits completed (excluding AP credits I can count for W&M GenEd, but not my school's) by the semester's end. I'm shooting for '07 fall acceptance. I go to West Point (hence me wanting to leave--it sucks!) if it makes any difference...thanks for the help, and sorry again VTEngineer18.
