I’m a freshman at the Ohio State University, and though I’m far from hating it here, I can’t say I’m being particularly challenged academically. Stats (took the highest level classes I could without taking pre-req’s first- I’m an international student, so the AP stuff didn’t really count for me):

1st QUARTER:

-Compulsory Freshman Survey: A
-English 202 : A or A- (final grades not out yet)
-Int’l Studies 201: A
-Music 252: A

Also, I’m the Editor of the English Undergraduate Newsletter, and a member of AID (Association for India’s development).

Essays should be good, recs should be fine as well.

High school- great recs, 2100 SAT, decent academics, Editor of school newsletter, co-director of high school musical, co-designed a fashion line, have a book deal (which my lazy behind hasn’t got to working on yet…let’s just call that a work in progress with a definite offer of publishing when I’m done), and so on.

I also have one of my essays done- if anyone wants to read and comment, please let me know.

You have the stats, etc., to get in, but realize with Amherst being over-admitted last year, things are tight, and it is harder for transfers to get in. Make sure your essays are stellar and really show who you are. Good luck!

You have very nice ECs. May I ask what market your fashion line was aimed at?
Ejr is right, Amherst did over-enroll (by about 50 students if I remember correctly), so although you have higher than normal chances, it will still be hard. I would find a few other places that might also have what you want out of your school.

Thanks! The fashion line was basically an experiment funded by a subdivision of the Ministry of Culture, where we took the art forms of rural artisans and placed them on modern clothing, bags, shoes etc. The basic purpose was pretty much to provide a sustainable means of livelihood to impoverished artists, and the marketing was still in development at the time that I left for OSU (I was mainly involved in designing).

Another quick question- I know aid for int'l students is very very limited, but does it hinder my chances of admission if I even apply for it?

Amherst is not need blind for internationals (although this will likely change very soon), so your financial need would be a consideration in the admissions decision. If you were admitted, however, you would receive 100% of your demonstrated need, just like every other Amherst student.
