transfer chances?

How selective is FSU when it comes to accepting transferees?

Been sick and stressed out all week, plus I had to take 5 exams in 2 days since I have a flight in the middle of exam week. I think that really affected my performance in my last exams. I'm worried that my high B/low A average in my other classes would get pulled down by my horrible exam grades. My old aim was a 3.5; now, I'd probably just be lucky to make the 3.0 cut.

as my s just got admitted as a freshman, i don't really know very much about the transfer process.

here is some information about transfers. looks like the acceptance rate has been trending lower for years

http://www.ir.fsu.edu/Performance_Indicators/Major/Mj02.pdf

acceptance rate currently seems to be around 40%.

what school are you currently going to?

when do you want to transfer"

i believe you still need to submit your high school transcript and sat/act scores.

if you give us a bit more info, we might be able to give you a better answer. as always, it is best to call admissions and get their insight on your chances. they would really be in the best position to know.

freshman admission has started to get much more competitive. i would asume that transfer admission is even more difficult.

I'm international. My high school's the most competitive in the country- tri-lingual curriculum, classes Monday to Saturday. My GPA's only a 3.0 however.

I've got leadership and community service experience- top ranking officer of high school JROTC, spent a lot of time in impoverished areas teaching kids and young adults, participated in housing projects for the homeless. I also spent the summer before college in my high school coordinating with the administrators about school cleanliness projects, disaster escape routes and traffic schemes (the school's right in the middle of one of the busiest districts of the country).

I've helped out in a lot of international events here in college. I'm also a member of the literary guild and a few more clubs. (It's a small university under the the university system of GA. Not my choice though; just that it gave me a lot of scholarships.)

Basically, I'm limited only to FL and GA with regards to transfer choices now, since my aunt lives in FL and I go back to her place for the holidays. She strongly recommends FSU since I'm an English major.

SAT
CR 650
W 600
M 610

Lit 700
Math1 640
Math2 650

I didn't do any preparation for these the first time so I might be retaking Reasoning in January, but I'm not sure if I should still retake the Subject Tests. I'm applying to other schools as well. (Rollins, UF, UGA & University of Washington, where a relative of mine goes)

Well, here is the problem. FSU has frozen admissions at 2006 numbers. Last years they did not even accept spring transfer applications, and I suspect things may be the same this year. They are accepting applications for fall transfers. THe problem also lies with the fact they have a 2+2 aggreement with TCC to accept those who graduate with an AA or an AS, and any florida CC grad is guaranteed an admission to at least one state U, with many applying to UF and FSU. So there is competition with the instate cc grads. Are you applying for sophomore standing? If they take sophomores, that is probably your best shot. At the Junior level, its just tough all over at a Florida state U.

Thanks for that info. I'm applying for sophomore standing. I'm still not sure if I'm going for summer or fall. I haven't taken any science classes yet and I'd rather much take them here first where the classes are small before transferring. Unless science classes in the summer at FSU are smaller than their usual.

Summer classes are smaller, but the summer term is only 6 weeks, and a science with a lab in six weeks would be rather intense. I would think with your stats that you have a god shot at transferring in as a sophomore. There are always freshman who do not return after fall or spring semester, leaving slots to fill. But, applying for summer may give you an even better shot.

Oh, and can new transfer students live on-campus? Don't slots get filled up by freshmen really quickly?

With the two new dorms that opened this fall, I do think that you also have a shot at living on campus. And there are private dorms within a block of the edge of campus as well. If you go back to some threads here on the FSU board, going back a few pages, there is one that lists some info on the private dorms.
