Currently, I am a Freshman at UNC-Asheville and I am interested in transferring to Chapel Hill. In my first semester I took 18 credit hours and I am expecting to have around a 3.8-4.0 GPA. Next semester I am taking 16 credit hours and I don't expect my GPA to drop at all. Would it be plausible to think that I'll be admitted to Chapel Hill or no? My high school grades weren't so great, but I'm hoping that my college grades will be adequate compensation.

I think you have a good chance. I transferred myself during my Freshman year as well and my grades were similar to yours. As long as your high school grades aren't miserable and SAT's are decent 1150+ I think you'll be in good shape. Sophomore transfer students, such as yourself, are judged on high school and college performance, but your college grades are weighed more. Good luck with the transfer and let me know if you have any questions about the process.

Hey thanks for your reply. Where did you transfer from? How many credits did you transfer with? Is there anything specific I should be doing to improve my chances? Are you originally from North Carolina? Do you think you made the right decision by transferring? If theres anything else you could tell me it would be much appreciated. Thanks again.

I had a 3.5 in high school with a 1900 on my sats 630 math 620 reading 650 righting, im hispanic, and i was wieghtlisted out of state the first time around, i had a very good grade trend in highschool my 9th grade GPA was a 2.7 and the next four years things only got better. i had a 3.9 sophmore year a 3.7 junior year and a 3.0 senior year but they were all ap so my gpa was a 4. i also had very good recs and extra corics, my essays were good as well i got into occidental and holycross, but initaly wanted to go to emory so i went to their alternate campus, called oxford which if i stay would be for my freshman and sophmore year. I started the semester with a full scedule but do to a conflict with a teach i had to drop a class, i think i will only have 13 credits this semester. but next semester i plan on overloading to compansate and or taking a class over winter break to make up for it and get to the needed 30 credits. in these three classes i will have between 3.4 and a 4. depending on how my finals go, can anybody tell me my chances ar unc chap?

Is there anyone else willing to shed some light on this situation?

I was told when I visited the admissions office that the average GPA that transfers should shoot for was 3.3. I don't know what the deal is, whether it changes from school to school (that you're applying from). I don't have the specifics, but that's what I was told.

Hi!!

I transfered in this past year!
Here are my stats:

I transfered in as a sophomore from the University of Wisconsin in Madison.

I had a 3.8 in HS, 1920 combined on my SATs (30 on my ACT -which is the score I think I actually sent in), and my first semester at UW I had a 3.133 -- not the best GPA.

I also have a twin brother who goes to UNC, so I dont know if that did anything to my chances. I am originally from Colorado - but as a transfer the in state/oos thing doesn't actually matter.

Applying as a transfer to UNC is very similar to applying as a Freshman anywhere- its a game. I don't think there is a cut off number anywhere in terms of GPAs or test scores. Best of luck!!!! Hope to meet you all next year!

Thanks guys, greatly appreciated.
