Hello Everybody, I need a moment of your time. Currently I attend a Community College in New Jersey, and I am looking at Binghamton as a school of interest for when I decide to transfer (spring 2009). I was wondering if any of you could judge whether or not Binghamton is a practical choice, considering my education background.

-Male
-New Jersey
-HS GPA: 80
-College GPA: 2.90
-SAT: 960 (I know, awful)
-Part-time job at an engineering firm for the past three years.

Some further background. I have attended Community College for three years, and throughout all that time I was taking courses towards an Egineering degree. Towards the end of the Fall semester of 07 I started having doubts about whether I wanted to be an Engineer.. Long story short, I changed my major from Electrical Engineering to Economcs, and my grades have improved a lot. I had a 3.2 GPA in the Spring Semester of 08, and I got two A's in the Summer semester of 08. I plan to get mostly A's and B's in the Fall of 08, so my GPA should jump even more.

With that said, is Binghamton a practical choice? If I continue to increase my GPA, and send in midterm grades, would Binghamton consider me? Also, should I consider taking the SATs over again, to try and raise the scores...or forget about it since I've been out of HS for three years?

Thanks for any and all input. Appreciate it guys/gals!

honestly...scores are a little low..and if i learned anything from applying to schools it's that stats make the difference...it'll be tough since you are an out of stater...but its not exactly harvard so who knows...i would consider takign the sat's again..can't hurt..bing's avg scores are like a 1200...so you could use a bump to maybe an 1100 range.

yeah your grades are pretty low unfortunately. binghamton's average hs gpa is 93 .. so your 80 is going to hurt you. your SATs could be a little higher. above 1250 and you might have a good shot. good luck

I'm a transfer student. My high school GPA was a 78, college GPA was a 3.7 after 4 semester at a small private college. Despite the very low HS grades, I was admitted. It's been 3 years since HS for you, so those grades won't count as much. Your college GPA is on the low side - focus on those As this semester. I would consider retaking the SATs.

Best of luck!

You won't get in unles you improve college GPA. By this time they could care less about HS stuff. So no worries on the 80 and the bad SATs. Well, if you are borderline, it could make them not accept you, but overall, they care about college grades.

And for those, a 2.9 is not good. You definitely need to get that up to 3.2-3.5+ to have a shot IMO. I'm not sure how many credits the GPA is weighed down by, but hopefully you can pull it up and have a shot. GL!

I agree with what has been said already, Binghamton would be a reach.
