Hi! I’m a freshman at the University of Maryland(OOS) and I’m applying as a transfer student to BC for fall 2009. I was wondering what my chances of being accepted were.
Here are my stats:
HS GPA: 4.3 W (All A’s all 4 years, only honors and AP courses)
Rank: Top 5% (I think it was higher but my high school rounds)
SAT I: 690 M, 720 W, 780 CR
SAT II: 720 Math II, 760 Literature
HS EC’s: LOT’s of long-term community service projects, several leadership positions, 2 jobs, Varsity Indoor Track, Varsity Tennis, club tennis, church youth group
College GPA: 4.0; 17 credits; difficult course load (3 A+'s, 3 A’s)
College EC’s: Club tennis, Student Government Association rep., elementary school mentor, Economics Tutoring Association, Biology lab research assistant
Honors/Awards: National Honor Society (with 20 hours community service each year), Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society (with 10 hours tutoring each year), Oberlin College Book Award, Headmaster’s Award (for maintaining a 4.0 all 4 years of HS), AP Scholar with Distinction, President’s Scholarship (merit scholarship at UMD), Dean’s List
Also, I’m a member of College Park Scholars, which is an honors program at UMD.
Teacher Recs: Should be good. I was one of only a few people in my bio class of 400 people to get an A+ so I’m feeling confident that one will be very good. Also, my art history teacher is writing my other rec, and I got an A+ in that class too.
Essays: Working on them right now.
Sorry for such a long post. Thank you so much!

Bump...Bump

well i think youll be fine, certainly better off than me with bc. but it is a crap shoot, especially since bc admissions for acceptance is so low for transfer students (like 10% i think). But i dont think you could have done much better than you did at Umd. good luck!

nice application.. i applied as a transfer last year, feel free to message me.
looks like you got to know your professors which is great, so I would say try and learn as much about boston college as you can so you can get a feel for it and how you would fit in..(other than being at a school with more prestige/opportunities). If you have anything that would show you to be a more diverse student than others that would also be valuable.

I am curious though, that school does A+'s? I've never heard of that, does it affect your gpa? also whats your major

My major is undecided at Maryland, but I plan on studying economics. I know the A+'s are weird. Maryland will give pluses and minuses, but they don't factor into GPA. It's a strange system.
