Transfer Chances???

Hi, I'm an applicant for Fall 09 as a Transfer. I'm a first year college student looking to enroll at JMU in my sophmore year. Here's my stats:

High School
GPA: 3.49
SAT: 1500/2400
Clubs/EC's: FBLA, Gamer's Club

College
Fall 08 Semester
GPA: 3.80 (Dean's List)
ENGL 101: A
SPAN 101: A
Music History 101: A
Business 101: A
PSYC 101: B
Clubs/EC's: Political Science Club, Phi Eta Sigma National Honors Society, Gamer's Club, 20+ hours of Volunteer Work on Campus.

I would say odds are definitely in your favor, what school do you go to?

Indiana University of Pennsyvania. I have an 4.0 gpa right now in my Spring 09 Semester, which is good cause JMU wants a 3.0 overall.

I probably wouldn't sweat it, I am trying to transfer from va tech with a 3.5 and I think my chances are good let alone you with close to a 4.0. However, nothing is ever 100% in these things for anyone...good luck anyways.

You're appyling for Fall 09 for sophomore standing?

Yeh...sad thing is Im losing 15 AP credits if I transfer to JMU. Weird how I get more credit for APs at Va Tech.

Wow, that got to hurt! Well, good luck to you and we will both know our admission decision in about 3 weeks!! I'm a just VA resident trying to get into a good VA college. I also applied to Georgetown, William & Mary, UVA, Mary Washington, and George Mason. I know I have a great shot at Mason and Mary Washington, but W&M, UVA, and Georgetown (especially Georgetown) are VERY competitive. W&M and UVA both state on their admissions page that they want at LEAST a 3.5 and Georgetown wants a 3.7. I have parents who are Georgetown alumni which helps, but its still a wildshot.

You have a great shot at JMU, but UVA and GTown? You messed up by not going to community college. You are going to have to take so many general education classes at JMU! It looks like you want to go into business, UVA is out of the question, 70% of the accepted McIntire students came from VCCS and the other 30% came from really good schools(I have NEVER heard of Indiana University of Pennsylvania). Maybe GTown because of your parents but still its a long shot. But Good Luck. All of the schools you are applying to are great schools. But I still think that you would would have had a better shot at UVA if you had gone to community college.

I'm not a business major anymore. I changed my major early in the Spring 09 semester. I'm a political science major/pre-law. I don't think the Humanities college is as competitive as McIntire. My school is not very well known, but a kid from my school got into Harvard Medical school and the co-founder of youtube.com graduated here. (Chad Hurley)

The thing about transfering as a current freshman is that they look at your high school stats about as much as they do your college ones. I was contemplating applying to Uva along with JMU but I was convinced by a few people to not even bother. Although I did good in high school (1860 SAT, 3.6 gpa) its not up to Uva standards. I too am a poly sci major and JMU might be a better fit for me than VT's liberal arts program.

Nice, I got my transfer acceptance letter like a week ago. The acceptance packet didn't look very personal, just a brochure and a letter that doesn't even say congradulations really, but nonetheless I will be attending.

Congratulations on your acceptance!

JMU has rolling system?? If ur accepted as transfers when did u apply? I applied on Feb. 16 and did not heard anything from JMU yet.

I applied maybe around early to mid February, and I wasn't expecting a letter until mid April but owell I'm glad I know now. Maybe mine was earlier because I had applied as a freshman last year and got in and they might have some of my info already on file, or maybe it was a fluke.

Kindaslick89, congrats! I'm still waiting. Did you parents get the letter first or did JMU send the letter to Tech?

I got the letter at home when I was on Spring Break, in all honesty, the admissions packet isn't a big deal. Just a generic letter that tells you to pay a deposit and a transfer packet with a bunch of common sense information. But good luck to you king26 you'll hear back real soon.

Hey kindaslick89. I was wondering why your transferring to JMU? Did you not like v.tech? Sorry, but I’m trying to transfer and I got into tech but waitlisted at JMU. I’m still not sure which one to go to if I do get into JMU. Do you know anything about both of their bio programs?
