I just finished my freshman year at a state school in MA. I have a 3.0 GPA up to this point. Im interested in the engineering school at umass specifically civil.. How are my chances for transfering into Umass? Is a 3.0 good enough to transfer in as a sophmore?im trying to compile a list of possible schools to transfer to and i dont know if umass is a reach or not at this point. Does anyone have a similair experience? Thanks for reading.

It is not a reach. A 2.8 or so is average and a 3.0 is slightly above average. The engineering school has slightly higher admissions standards but if your GPA includes science classes of good rigor you have an excellent chance of getting in. Even if you don’t get in to Engineering, you can take Engineering/pre-req classes and if you get a B/B- or so average you will be admitted in the major
