Transfer Chances

Hey, I'm looking to transfer into UCLA Poli. Sci. from UC Santa Barbara, can anybody who has a good grasp on UCLA transfer chances assess my status?
My stats are as follows:

College GPA: 3.53
Finished all GEs
Finished all pre-major requirements
CALPIRG Internship: Health Care Campaign Coordinator (10-20 hours a week on top of school)

High School:
GPA: 3.6
SAT: 2100
ACT: 32

SAT IIs:
Bio- 660
Lit- 680
US- 700

8 A.P. Exams: three 5s, four 4s and a 3

High School:
1 year Academic Decathlon (I was 12th in state, including Division 1 golds in Interview in History)
4 years varsity golf, 3 years captain of j.v. golf
3 years drama
student council representative
loads of community service

I have worked really hard to get to Junior standing by the time I will enter UCLA by taking 57 quarter units through the fall, winter and spring quarters, (I have 40 transferable credits completed before freshman year)...

first of all your high school grades won’t matter if your transferring from ucsb. Second, I don’t think your gpa for poli sci is competitive enough. The average last year was around a 3.9. If you went to a jc and did the TAP program you would have a lot better shot. But than again you never know maybe you wrote and awesome essay.

hope that helps. Goodluck.

Epgenius,

Here’s the good news, for political sci they admitted 40% of transfers from 2009:

Above link shows a transfer GPA admitted average of 3.65. Don’t forget, that’s the average so 50% above and 50% below that 3.65.

And here’s the break down by other UC’s transferring into UCLA:

The bummer is that only 44 UCSB students successfully transferred in 2009.

Based on the numbers I would say you have a good chance but I would encourage you to really become familiar with the mechanics of the transfer application process.

Best,
Wheaty
