Transfer: Columbia, Any Chance?

Note: I first posted this in the Columbia section, but after finding this forum I thought it might be more appropriate here. sorry about any confusion.

Hi, I figured I'd post this here because I've been thinking about transferring and if I have any shot at Columbia then why not apply there. I know my chances are slim to none, but please just be honest in your replies. I am also going to apply for transfer to UVA, which I am a bit more confident about.

I'd transfer as a rising sophomore:
-Virginia Tech Biochemistry major
-I'll have either a 3.9 or 4.0 at the end of the semester.
-SATs: 670 math, 630 writing, 630 English. These will hurt me the most I think.
-High School gpa: 3.88 weighted. (6 A.P.'s, 7 Honors).
-College Activities: Ice Hockey Team, Boxing Club, Outdoor Club
-High School Activities: 3 season athlete (Capt. of Hockey Team), Envirothon President (2 yrs.), a variety of honor societies and clubs.

Any thoughts?

thanks!

really no one? I’ll chance back too!

It is incredibly hard to judge transfers plain and simple… Unless your rank is in the top 5 or you have talked with professors that believe your potential is way above what they are teaching or agree to do some massive research with you outside of school… I’m not smelling a strong profile. Really, transfer is almost twice as hard as getting in freshman year. That is across the board from liberal arts schools to harvard(Selective schools I mean).

If this would be a junior transfer and you’ve maintained a 4.0 for 3 semesters with at least half rigorous, upper level classes, it’s worth a try. If you’ve just been there 1 term it’s much less likely unfortunately. For a sophomore transfer you most often have to have been a likely admit right out of high school.
