For the common app transfer essay(the address reason why you want to transfer prompt), would anyone suggest to strictly stick to writing why you want to transfer to said school and any goals you which to obtain by transferring, or try to make your self more likeable to admissions, maybe lots of personality content. I have a rough draft for next semester just want some clarification as to what would be more admission worthy. Also would it be advised to write about how I didn’t really like my school in the beginning, but now wouldn’t change a thing about attending?(I’m at a Community college and out of high school only applied to 4 schools all of which denied me)
I think you definitely can’t neglect the former for the latter–you definitely have to clearly articulate the reasons and your goals–but that doesn’t mean your essay has to be devoid of personality either. A large part of why you want to go to the schools you want to attend does have to do with your personality, interests, and past accomplishments. I think of this example essay when I think of the balance between the two concepts: http://www.■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■/interests/transfer/articles/how-transfer/transfer-essays-example/
And sure, you can write about how you grew to love your school, but instead of spending an excessive amount of time talking about what you initially didn’t like, focus on what you learned about yourself and what you gained by attending the school.
@OnMyWay2013 thank you so much definitely helpful! I hope I spent a suffiecient amount of time explaining how much I have learned in my years at community college! And I definitely have to find a balance of my personality within my goals of transferring! Very helpful link as well
