Transfer Community College Student: Chances in getting into Cal Poly Pomona?

Hi, I’m a transfer student from Rio Hondo and I already got a provisional admissions into Cal State La, but the college I really want to get into is Cal Poly Pomona, which my admission status is still “ready for decision”.

Major: Business Accounting
GPA: 2.95
In-state student
Did the golden 4 classes: A’s in Speech and College Algebra, B’s in English Composition and Advance Composition/Critical Thinking
Done all the required courses for my major
AS degree in Accounting

My biggest concern is the fact that I’m trying to apply to an impacted major and my GPA isn’t that high. Will both of these things ruin my chances in getting into Cal Poly?

Being completely honest, for your major and GPA Pomona may be a bit of a reach. The CSU’s are all about the grades and EC’s so unless you did something fabulous or really unique EC wise, the chance for admission from looking at your stats right, now is slim. CSULA is a great school though, so congratulations on getting accepted there.

Wait what? They care about extra cirriculars? Dont remember anything for that when i submitted my admissions. I was in my accounting club in CC though. But thanks anyways.

Have you been admitted yet ? I have the same major and same gpa and I’m still waiting

Unfortunately not yet. If you’re transferring from Mt.Sac or Citrus, you probably will have a better chance of getting admitted than I do since I transferred from Rio Hondo.
