Do classes you took in high school, like college classes, APs, do the grades you got in the college classes and the scores you got on AP's affect your Berkeley GPA? Or do you just get the credits without a grade attatched.

nothing affects your berkeley gpa except classes taken at berkeley as an undergrad student.

can i use transfer credits, like college classes, to satisfy breadth requirements?

Yes, but they won't count towards your GPA. This can be good or bad depending on what you want to do. The obvious good side is that you are exempt from taking certain classes. The bad is sometimes the knowledge gained in these classes are necessary to do well in later courses. Also, I know for me, I took a bunch of courses at a community college. I'm applying to haas and because these classes were my "first attempt" they will be put on my haas application before any berkeley classes I take. While I received straight As. It still doesn't look as good as someone who tookt he class at berkeley (unless maybe you got a C or lower). Look into it and see what's best for you.

What about AP scores when your applying to Haas. Lets say you got a four on the AP Calc test. Then do they consider it like you got a B in a college calc class when calculating admissions to Haas. Do you think getting B+ in Calc 3 at a CSU would hurt me when applying to Haas.

heh, this reminds me of last semester, when i took mcb102 (survey of biochemistry and molecular bio). i had taken o-chem and a lower-division biochem course at a cc, and those two classes were more than enough in preparing me for the upper-division class. in fact, i had learned about a topic in depth in my ochem classes that people who had taken ochem at berkeley didn't learn... i'm sure it's all relative though

AP scores dont go into your GPA...so getting a 3 and getting a 5 is virtually the same if they both give you the same amount of credits. The bad side to taking classes at a CC is most of them all intro classes (meaning they are pretty easy). You want some easy classes to boost your berkeley gpa because the upper division classes will be harder.

I'll have credit in Chem 1A, and Calc 1-3. I've heard that the math classes are especially hard because the math majors make it really competitive. Also I'm assuming Chem 1A is also really hard. Couldnt I help me GPA by not having to take these classes because its a high chance these classes could potentially bring it down.
