So I had a call from the associate director of admissions of SUNY Environmental Science and Forestry today stating that they needed an evaluation from an agency that would transfer my credits from the UK to the US system ( I attended the University of Sheffield in the UK). He said that though I am a superior applicant who would enrich the community, without this evaluation, my acceptance would not be possible.
In looking at other university's websites, they seem to be more knowledgeable and equipped to evaluate my transcript WITHOUT this evaluation. Also, I have called two of the schools I applied to and they say that they don't even give out credit evaluations until you're accepted and respond to the offer.

Is it worth me paying the $180 (which will be difficult for me at the time), and contacting my very slow university to send a transcript to the agency and so and so forth, when I might not even be accepted (by the time this is all in, SUNY said they might have filled all their places anyway). My top choices (Duke and Columbia), won't need this, but should I do it to ensure I have a safety?

AH complicated I know. Any opinions?
