I was just wondering how likely it is to get transfer credit to count at MIT. I am currently taking two basic english classes at a local university(University of Wisconsin Green Bay) and am enrolled as a student there. The classes are College Writing(English Comp 100) and Expository Writing(English Comp 105). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Based on my son's experience, it isn't very likely. MIT gives AP credit, and it's pretty straight formward to get credit by taking a placement exam. But I haven't heard of much transfer credit being awarded. My son didn't get any credit for any of his college courses, although he got credit by taking MIT exams in some of the same subjects.

Take one of the AP English exams in May. If you get a 5 you'll place out of the freshman writing course at MIT. Transfer credit is much more difficult to get, and you don't know whether or not you have it until Orientation when it's too late to take the AP.

Yeah, it's somewhat sticky to get transfer credit in the humanities at MIT, although I've certainly known people who came in with HASS (humanities, arts, and social sciences) credit.
