I am currently a freshman in the honors program at cuny queens college. I am majoring in computer science and minoring in illustration/animation. I originally chose cuny because I got a great scholarship… as part of the honors program I get 50% off the already inexpensive tuition…However, I recently declared a computer science major, and queens college is known for having a weak program. Additionally, so far I really do not like the college, and most of the faculty is awful. I would LOVE to transfer to NYU. One of my parents recently got a job in NYU hospital, so I would receive a very, very significant scholarship if I get in. I am white, female currently have a 3.5 GPA in cuny queens (not so great) , I am in the honors program, and the QC scholars program. My SAT was 720 Math 700 CR 660 Writing. I took AP US hist, Psych, and Art in high school (5s on all) . Also, I attended NYU Tisch as a visiting student this past summer for an animation course and loved it. I got an A- in that class. I would much rather go to CAS then to Tandon, but I hear Tandon is easier to get into? I want a school that will really get me ready for the high tech world and can get me good internships. Which one do you think I have a better shot at, and what are my overall chances? I just want to get out of Cuny. Do I have a better change since I’m a girl doing CS? Any tips/ advice? Thank you
I am not entirely sure if Tandon is easier to get into; however, I can assure you that you shouldn’t have a problem getting into either school as your GPA is good. Both programs are different. At CAS the CS department is more focused on mathematics and theoretical aspects of the field and at Tandon, they are more focused on the applications of CS to developing software, etc. So it really depends on what you are more interested in. I am currently a student at Tandon majoring in CS.
