Transfer deadlines..Should i be hurrying to finish wayy before deadline????

In highschoo it was still "okay" to send in an application a couple days before the deadline because the majority of admissions offices didnt even look at them until after the deadline

BUT-- for transfer applications, is this not the same case? ...because what if space runs out in a certain program for that year..do they stop taking applications? or..do they not read them at all until the deadline passes because they're too busy with freshmen apps?

Im asking because this is what happened to northeastern's pharmacy program. Their official deadline was supposed to be march 1st or something but they stopped accepting applications awhile ago. This is sorta scaring me

anyone with info please!

It really depends from school to school. I would call them and ask directly from them. ...Very valid question.

I submitted my application at 11:59pm on the last day. YMMV though.

Those who do not live by the edge are taking up too much space. :)

it depends on the school. If they are rolling then you will want to submit it sooner rather than later. The deadline date is used as a point when after that date they start accepting applications on a "space available" basis, sort of similar to how a wait list works i guess. However, if it is not rolling, then there is no need to rush.

Agreed, if it isn't rolling, there isn't any difference in sending in the application two days after they start accepting versus sending it in at 11:59pm the day before its due. Northeastern was probably a rolling admission school, because most schools will state a date for which they won't accept anymore after that point, but they can easily fill all of the spots before then. So if the other schools you are applying to arn't rolling, then you should be fine sending it in Feb 28th at 11:59. Word of caution: don't wait until 11:59, you never know what could happen either on your side of the application or on theirs

NYU, for example, is not rolling and specifically suggests that transfer applicants not submit their materials any earlier than March due to the high volume of freshman applicants it receives (34k this year!)

WashU, on the other hand, has rolling admissions and so one should submit ASAP as spots are limited and decisions are handed out on a first-come, first-served basis.

What about a school that has rolling admission, but has a requirement that one of the documents (the mid-semester grade report) not be submitted until two weeks before the deadline? Would it be best to get everything else in ASAP, and then send the grade report in late, or wait until you can send all the forms in together (ie- two weeks before the deadline)?

If they say not to submit mid-semester reports until no more than 2 weeks out, then yes, I would submit the rest of the application early. They'll start considering your application when you send it in, and then will just put it aside until your reports come in. The most imporant thing is the postmark on the main application.

The reason why colleges suggest you apply early is so they can notify you if you have missing pieces of your application before the deadline passes and its to late to submit them.
