I was accepted today into both UCSD and UCD, the only two schools I applied for (as a third year transfer student).
I am a premed major, admitted to SD as human biology to Muir college, and to Davis as a neurobio/physio/behavioral major. I'm strongly interested in these feels and very dedicated to making it to med school, however, I'm in a bit of a jam deciding. I grew up in socal (and who doesn't love SD!?) but I went to visit Davis and really loved their campus. San Diego is great as a city, but I don't know if I like the campus/area as much as Davis. Then there is the issue of how highly regarded SD is in it's biology department, not to mention scripps.

it really depends on where you are from and what is your personal interest…I am personally a big fan of UCD, because I have always been from the ‘Valley’, and so I would feel a home going to UCD, yet alone the large and diverse campus, but what would bring me to go to UCD is that the whole city is a college town…just like CSU CHICO, so thats real nice…as for UCSD, its a nice campus and do enjoy the environment, let alone their amazing program, but I too would have a tough choice…if you havent already, visit both schools and compare your workload, finances, living and etc. and do a pros and cons chart to decide which is right for you…

Thanks samurai92, the pro/con chart is definitely on the way!
I’m from orange county, not really much of a big city person, and before visiting Davis, never even seen a real college town (but I really liked it!).
But there are many factors to consider, and let’s just say Davis would be a bit cheaper, aaannd I really like their housing! Which I’m also a bit skeptical about the transfer housing at UCSD (I juat feel that I’ve outgrown the living in dorms stage).

You can’t go wrong with either schools. UCSD’s biology program is obviously very highly regarded, but that is not to say UCD’s isn’t good either. Initially when I started taking classes at community college, my primary goal was to get into UCSD. However, as the semesters flew by, I began to grow more fond of UCD. I guess that’s because I wanted a change of scenery for once (I grew up in SoCal too btw). UCD has such a beautiful campus. It is gigantic, the students are friendly and laid back, and the college town aspect of it is very unique. I received my acceptance from UCD today and I’ll be attending there next fall as a microbiology major. In the end it all boils down to which campus will make you happier.

Wow, you situation sounds very similar to mine. Going to the campus that makes me happier is really the biggest factor, so hopefully it will become quickly apparent to me when I go back and visit San Diego in the next couple of weeks.

Wow! Well, that is actually pretty interesting, I’ve heard that this is one of the toughest years ever to get into UCLA , so congratulations! I only applied to 2 campuses, so I did tag to Davis to make sure I get into one of them!
You should be really happy about getting into 2 of the best uc’s!

I have been around Davis all my life…and its definitely no where from boring…Its a great college town…obviously UCSD is closer to the beach and a popular city life…to me I would go to DAVIS…but deff explore the areas of both…

Thanks for all of ypur opinions! I would say anywhere can be fun if you try hard enough, I really liked the Davis area, so I dont think I will personally be bored there haha. I do hear (and see) the UCSD is boring though, and its not like Davis where you can just bike any where you want, you have to deal with traffic and do all the big city stuff to have fun, which I’m not sure how much time I’ll have for that…

Socially, Davis > San Diego. Academically they’re both great for Bio but SD has an edge.

If you want a change or scenery, I would strongly suggest Davis because the pros of SD don’t outweigh Davis by much and if you’ll be happier experiencing college away from home then Davis it is.

UCD for sure! I’m from Sacramento and Davis has so many medical centers all over the city that I’m sure you’d be able to get a nice internship. Plus Davis has a football team…D1 I might add. It is a total college town and everyone from sac has aggie pride! UCSD I’ve heard from friends is actually boring…yeah they have the beach big whoop.
