If they start mailing out the letters June 1st and i don’t have my transcript loaded in the next few days, should i take that as a rejection?

Karstonf Absolutely not! They do the acceptance letters in batches, so June first is just the earliest anticipated notification. If you read back through old posts you’ll see people saying they didn’t get their letters till mid July or even later.

I’m not sure how the admission process works. Do they make your transcript available right before they send out the letter, and not all at once? So say you’re part of a July batch, your transcript wouldn’t load til July even though you’ve been accepted?

I kind of wish i never found out about this transcript thing lol

How sure are we about this transcript thing? Because I’m actually kind of shocked if I get in. My adviser said I had like a 5-10% chance, and that I shouldn’t have even bothered applying.

wow either your adviser is a dick or your a horrible student

I don’t think the transcript loading is a 100% guarantee that you got in. But mine loaded last week and I got the acceptance letter on Saturday, so I think it’s a good indicator… Seriously, why would your advisor say that? Are you at a WA community college? Because the advisors at the one I attended were completely worthless.

It’s pretty awful to say you shouldn’t have bothered applying, considering you have a 100% chance of not getting in if you DON’T try.

That being said, the advisors at my current CC told my boyfriend essentially the same thing, because he was a computer science major, and it’s unbelievably competitive in Seattle. They strongly advised him to transfer to Tacoma instead. When it was my turn to think about applying at places, I assumed that since the business program was also competitive I would have a slim chance. My grades though are pretty noteworthy, especially given my educational background, and although I’m still waiting to hear back about my general acceptance to UW, I have already been accepted into the business school. Fingers crossed for both of us, good luck!

For those that are worried, my transcript did not load even though I got the acceptance letter in mail last Saturday. I just submitted my confirmation last Tuesday, still my transcript has not loaded but I am now capable of registering for Autumn classes (and capable of doing other things on my account that I couldn’t do before). So don’t fully depend on the transcript!

The unofficial transcript thing is a good indicator, but not an absolute answer.

If you’ve ever taken a class with the UW system for any reason you will have an unofficial transcript load regardless of whether you get in or not to the school

And as fattyacid noted, they were accepted w/out their transcript loading.

It’s a general guideline for people looking for signs, but it’s not an absolute answer one way or another.

So I’ve been hearing quite a bit about people that applied to the Foster School of Business have already received their acceptance letters. When I applied to UW the major I selected was Asian Studies, which I assume would be associated with the Jackson International School. Is there a difference between being accepted to a certain sect within UW and general admission to UW? Anyone hear back that has applied to the Jackson International School?

Just to let everyone know… I am intended electrical engineering major, I called admissions yesterday and they informed me that for competitive major applicants, the general admissions UW typically will wait to see if your major’s department accepts you or not, then make a decision on that. Now, this may not be completely true information, or maybe the advisor I spoke with was giving me bad info. However, what this means, especially to engineering students, is that we wont find out about admissions until we submit and receive admissions decisions from out respective engineering departments. So, for example, Electrical opens June 20 and decisions go out around July 25, we wont hear from UW until proceeding dates of July 25. Again, this may not be solid info, but it was what I was told from uw admissions. Doesn’t really make sense to me, if someone has anything to dispute it that would be great!

I think I saw someone discussing this engineering issue on the boards before, I have read basically all the posts… and they all were guessing that one might be accepted under general admission and then still apply come June 20th. But in general people who apply to competitive majors mostly all here back from those majors before they hear from general admissions, so it seems.

Yea, I can’t imagine general admissions waiting to inform a student until august.

Actually people at uw talk in different ways. One says general admission depends on department. One says never depend because they are separate and students have to apply seperate too

I just receive my acceptance letter in the mail, good luck to all!

I received an e-mail a few days ago reminding pre-engineering students that the college of engineering application opens on June 20th. I couldn’t tell if the e-mail was for all pre-engineering students (I was hopeful I had already been accepted as pre-engineering and so was receiving this e-mail) or if it was for all transfer applicants who indicated an engineering major on their application.

I asked him if he had any knowledge of my application status and he said that the admissions office “has not let transfer students know about their admission status until late-June at the earliest” in the past.

I really want to read into this as if I’ve already been accepted into the UW (or that I will be) and that I simply haven’t been notified yet and they haven’t updated my unofficial transcript. As of right now though, I’m taking this at face value that my application status is still up in the air.

Congratulations @kevinsauer!

I have been restraining myself from contacting admissions for a few weeks, because although I have been accepted into the Foster school of business I have to wait to be notified about my general admission. However I just realized that there is kind of a perfect storm of deadlines coming up, and in order to meet all of them I would need to be notified of admission within the next week or two it seems. I have four specific orientation sessions that I have to choose from, but I also read somewhere that before I can register for one they need to receive a measles immunization form at least two weeks before the orientation or I will be blocked from registering. I also have to register for two specific classes and complete them during the fall quarter to maintain my status in the Accounting option.

All of these deadlines are making me very nervous about not receiving an admissions letter yet, although I’ve noticed a few other business school applicants have. I feel like my application was strong so I have a good chance, it’s just the timing of it all, so I did finally break down and contact admissions to ask if they take those specific factors into consideration to ensure that I am notified in time to meet those deadlines.

Don’t worry about registering for your classes at Foster. They have entire sections reserved for transfer students.

@seatac thank you, that’s really good to know!

So any engineering students guess when they should hear back from uw? Are they really waiting for the department decisions first or they make the general decisions not based on the department’s decisions?
