Transfer decision

No such luck, and I would notice as I check my UW obsessively. I realize after reading some of the stats of admitted people that my very non traditional academic background, and my 3.54 GPA, UW is a stretch. I guess if you’re going to dream you should dream big:)

I have been told that they like non-traditional students and take into consideration life factors that might have interfered with a higher cumulative GPA or more extracurricular activities. I myself am very non-traditional, having a child and coming from a very working class family. I don’t think these factors should hinder your application for admission.

I assumed that denials would come before acceptance letters, which is why I asked. Although I understand anyone’s hesitance in posting that kind of information.

I read the UW transfer guide at my CC and the average GPA of “accepted” transfer students into UW is 3.44 . I know this also depends on which major you’re going for but a 3.54 GPA is great. In my opinion, most people using this college confidential forum are very serious about their education and really want to get into UW, that is why the stats posted here are higher.

As for me, I applied to UW with a 2.73 GPA from high school before. Of course I was dreaming, but now applying with a 3.95 college GPA, I hope my dream will come true:)

@mickeymckee, I also assumed that denials would come before acceptance letters. I received my rejection letter the very first day of freshmen notification period several years ago, but it might just be that my application was horrible.

I really hope so. I’m very hesitant though as I dropped out of school in ninth grade ,and moved in with my brother to escape a bad situation so I have no high school transcripts at all. Additionally, I worked with racehorses for around 16 years, had 3 kids and didn’t even get a GED until I was 34. I almost feel like the aforementioned information in conjunction with 20 years out of school is a little too non traditional. If that’s possible.

I am in a similar boat, JSmith210. I dropped out in 11th grade and got my GED at 34, although I did go to community college for 2 years in 2002. I struggle with anxiety, depression and ADHD, all of which have taken a toll on my grades. My GPA is 3.45, but my combined SAT score is 2170. Unfortunately, the UW does not accept SAT scores from applicants with over 40 credits.

At this point I’m beginning to feel like a bit of a long shot. I am hopeful, but I am also making other plans for my life. Best of luck to you!

what if we got into the program and not the general admission? How likely is that to happen? What are the possibilities? Anyone heard any stories related to this scenario?

T T I was denied by the major today…

@fattyacid, of course that’s possible. travelgirl wrote about her friend who had just that.

I would assume that if a program isn’t very competitive then it’s quite likely that you can be denied general admission. For example, if the avg. GPA in the program is lower than avg. for general admission. Or if the admission rate is much higher than for general.

@seatac, yikes- okay…this is intense! lol
My general admission statement sucks! And my GPA for general admission sucks too <.<
Life is doom for me sad

@fatty acid Have you been admitted to a particular major? I am willing to wager that if you were indeed already admitted into a competitive major your GPA is not as terrible as you think. Also, I have learned going back over your personal statement is not helpful for the nerves. I found mine the other day searching through documents and freaked out. I did not even mention why I wanted to go to the UW. I just wrote about my background, my desire to be an anthropologist and finally how I wanted to be a positive role model to my children and show them how no matter what kind of adversity you face you can overcome it and be a success. Then I ended it with " I hope that one day my children will look up to me as a positive role model, and be proud to call me “mom”. Not only did I find my own statement clich

"Not only did I find my own statement clich

Hello, I was wondering if there were any running start students that are transferring to the UW. I am a running start student myself and I got rejected from the UW as a freshman applicant. I’m currently in my senior year and I was thinking about taking another quarter of community college to try and transfer in. However, my gpa in CC isn’t that great. I guess what I want to ask is: is there anyone out there that was or is in my particular situation? I would love some advice even if you cannot relate. After getting rejected I was absolutely devastated, but I was also motivated at the same time. However I feel like I already screwed up too much to even have a chance.
On a side note, good luck to all you transfers out there! I know how it feels to wait for a response and I wish you all the best!

@silentboy123, I was a running start student and graduated high school with a 2.73
I did apply to UW for the freshmen application and was rejected the very first day of the notification period. The rejection letter was the very first time I felt how it is to be a failure, the feeling was unforgettable. It was also the biggest motivation for me to work up my way for success in CC. But hey, you can change your way now before it’s too late. My advise is to keep attend your CC and keep your GPA up, learn from what you did wrong in high school. Attend all classes and do all the HW recommended (even if it is not going to be graded). Stay at the CC as long as you need to finish your requirements for the major and get up to at least 90 transferable credits (UW likes this in transfer students) and only take the classes that you really need. I went through what you are going through right now. At this period of time, waiting for the decision from UW. Good luck to you, work harder and learn from your mistakes!

@Kevinsauer Did you have all 90 credits completed prior to applying? I applied with 45, but at time of transfer will have 90 transferable credits. I even went as far as to send an official transcript of my grades from the quarter following my application just to show that I still had a positive grade trend, and had attended the classes that were on my application for that quarter. Admissions told me that was unnecessary, but since I did it they would include them in my review as well as consider me as someone coming in with 90 credits. I just can’t help but wonder if that is somehow going to negatively affect my chances.

@Jsmith210, I emailed the admission office about this and I emailed to ask them twice to make sure. They told me that the “90 transferable credits priority” means 90 transferable credits before you attend UW, not when you’re applying. I applied with 60 credits. They told me the important factors are to be well prepared for my intended major and have a well organized plan for the quarters before attending UW . I don’t think sending another transcript of positive grade trend will hurt your chances at all since they would include them in the review. Hope this help!

@kevinsauer thank you for your response! It’s so reassuring to know that I’m not the only one. The feeling is incredibly horrible, especially when I saw all those Facebook posts of being accepted. At this point I almost have 90 CC credits which is why I feel like I screwed up too hard. My gpa in CC is under average, 3.3. I never realized how badly I wanted it until now.

Hi guys,

My unofficial transcript for UW Seattle just loaded this morning (admission for fall 2013). I already got the email stating that I am accepted into Foster last week. You guys can try checking your unofficial transcript.

Every time I try checking the unofficial transcript on MyUW, I get “The page cannot be displayed” screen. Is that normal?
