Coming out of university, IB analysts and s&t analysts make the exact same. IB actually make peanuts in the beginning. They probably hit 90k. That's a lot for a 1st year college grad, but when you're a VP for instance, you're pulling 400k+. Associates start out with 200K.

It's when you break it down to hours put in for the salary where the discrepency lies. IB work a lot more hours, so their salary per hour is much less. IB is more stable though. Traders get a base salary then make their own bonuses.

Listen, even in IB, most of your salary is coming from the bonus. Both start with 55K USD base.

I'll probably get an MBA eventually too. I would be more interested in doing IB when I'm an associate and skipping the analyst phase all together. I want to open my own fund at some point, though. I am already a pretty successful currency trader and I am going to keep working and refining my trading during my college years.

You have to do analysis and such if you want to trade. They're aren't going to give you millions of dollars to **** around with unless you have a strategy. You get to be the one executing the strategy, not only making it. You aren't going to give your work to someone else. It's just a different type of strategy based on math and stats than on, say, a balance book. This is all prop trading though.

You still get to interact with people. IB is where you're sitting infront of a computer all day. Sure, you get client exposure when you're higher up the chain of command, but from what I've heard it's mostly behind the computer or listening to your MD ***** at you over the phone.

Regardless, I'm interested in all areas of finance and like I said, I want to intern to fully explore my options before I decide. I'm not fully sure on all of this either. Can't really know until you've worked there.

anyone get any news from mcgill transfers?

how do you have the money or time to be trading already? I would love to give it a try now.

www.fxcm.com

300 USD for a mini account. There are tons of other brokers, but FXCM is really good. They have a news plug in and charts. Mm. There's a lot to it, but that website is a good place to start.

www.fxstreet.com is nice too.

I've actually been too busy studying for finals right now to follow the market closely, but I'll probably have some more time over the summer.

do you have MSN?

yes I do. vickitang8@hotmail.com. you guys are all welcome to add me if you like.

so they just act as a broker and execute trades for you? what other services do they provide? do they charge commission on trades?

I added you. We can talk on msn if you want.

The commission is based on a spread meaning that you buy a certain currency pair it starts a certain amount in the negative. You need to earn a certain amount back before you break even.

For instance, when trading EURUSD you start three pips in the negative. The market needs to move in your direction three pips before you make profit. This is how they make their money.

I think you can also use them to trade options, but mostly yes, its just a broker.

No decision for me yet, still 'further review required'.

I shall wait.

I dont know much about this currency trading stuff i'm reading about, but i'm interested.

aziroch msn me sandford28@hotmial.com thanks!

Damn... come on mcgill. Let's hear the news already.

I know they want me. :(

Hey guys, a friend of mine was asking me what percentage of the transfer applicants McGill accepts each year, and I really didn't have a clue. Do any of you know? Thanks!

Sorry for my little absence!
Still no news from them =)
As for how I kept the gpa?
hmm well, I retook the classes I have failed and tried the best I could to bring the mark up and I Took some other easy courses to increase the gpa =)
hehe
Interestin conversations u guys are having about IB!
I''d like to become a strategy/management consultant!!!!!
Though at BCG and MCkinsey you hit some high salaries too but that also means you have to spends lots of hours at work!!!!

I have added u!!

c ya

I called McGill today, on their "admissions decision website" it says May 20th as the last date for decisions.....today is May 20th and McGill admissions said they will be done by the end of the month, they are still working on them, but to check minerva regularly.

I was a transfer student last year, and if its any consolation, I didn't hear about the decision until late May, via Minerva, and didn't actualy recieve a packet until the beginning of June! Best of luck to you!

Ok. I got an email and checked the update on minerva.

Chemical Engineering : Admitted Pending Final Results
Finance : Further Review Required

They just want to get my final transcript which I just sent out today.

I decided that I didn't want to be a Chem Eng and really went strongly for finance, but my grade in chem suffered and fell to a C. I got a B in Calc II, a B+ in Intro to Programming, and an A in Statistics.

My grades were a bit shaky this semester, but hopefully I get into the finance program as I honestly don't want to do engineering.

Is engineering generally considered a more difficult dept to enter?

The attrition is probably higher then finance and they are able to accept more transfers too. :

No word back for me from the Faculty of Arts.

I shall wait

congratulations azrioch! It's probably just because you've taken more science related courses last year, although statistics is a required course for management, although in second year I believe. Just wait, I'm sure you'll get into finance too! I look forward to seeing you at McGill in September!

I'm still waiting my decision...some 3 weeks after the May 20th date they set on their website. Anyone else still waiting?

thats so weird- I work for admissions (graduate though) and we're still accepting people, but I would think undergraduate would be done- you should deffinately call them up. g'luck

I jsut got rejected ....below aca standard.....
wrote an email to ron crichtley, the b.com advisor...that is weird!
