Anyone have a clue when transfer decisions for Fall will be released? I'm getting sick of checking wolverine access and I haven't really heard much from either U-M or any other source besides "sometime in April". Is this accurate? I'm not trying to sound whiney or anything like that I just want to be able to plan ahead accordingly. P.S. I applied to CoE if that makes any difference; I know that they have an entirely separate admissions board. Thanks ahead of time.

They’re rolling. Over on the transfer board there is a UM thread. A few people already posted their rejections along with one acceptance.

Can you post the link for the transfer thread?

This year is a very uncertain year. Joining the common application will have unknown effects on Michigan’s yield. As it is, Michigan experienced a 20%+ increase in applicants. Michigan will first wait to see what happens with its freshman class before admitting the bulk of transfer applicants. I would not be surprised if transfer applicants got their decision in May.

Here’s the thread.

I’m exactly in the same position as you and this is getting really frustrating. I hate Wolverine Access right now because it’s just like my high school senior year. Where you go on and never get any new links.

I feel you. it’s terrible. It’s deja vu all over again. Gah…

An update for you folks:
I spoke with an admissions woman on the phone just a few minutes ago. From what she told me, it seems like they’re holding off decisions for many of the people who applied in January or close to the deadline until they receive grades for this winter semester. She told me that they wouldn’t make a decision until they received my grades. So I’m not sure what this means for everyone else, but it would be my assumption that the process is similar. The admissions board is meeting next week and I left my number with her, so she said she would be giving me a call informing me “of my situation”. Furthermore she said although I was competitive, I looked like I might be “more suited” for winter 2012. They would give me a letter encouraging me to apply for next winter if I didn’t get admitted for fall it sounded like. So whatever that means, hopefully it’s good. Don’t lose hope people, keep working hard and it will pay off.
P.S. sorry for the dp and thank you Alexandre for your help.

Ha! So basically she told you that you won’t be receiving a decision until the middle/end of May?

OK, thanks a lot of the information. I guess it proves my assumption that I should be sending in midterm grades as correct. At least it tells me where I should be going from here.

Yeah I was really surprised how much she told me. But she was pretty helpful, which I’m sure is not standard with this UM admissions people. Everyone else i’ve dealt with has been a real pain in the butt and stingy. But decisions in may… That sucks.

I spoke to a girl from the admissions office today and she said that admissions will be made anytime between now and mid-april. One of my friends applied during the Winter Break and she received her decision 2 weeks ago! I don’t get their system at all. I thought they wait for the Feb. 1 deadline and then review the applications??

Dude, whether you’re a freshmen or transfer, if you ask them when you’re gonna get a decision, they’re always gonna say by April. Even if a wave of acceptances/rejections are about to be sent out, they’re still gonna say April because that’s what they’ve been told to say. Calling and asking them won’t make a difference.

Also, rocxc4life, you said that the admissions officer said you were “competitive” and that she was gonna call you later “informing you of your situation?” That sounds really sketchy, because admission officers can’t tell you about your chances of getting in and the only communication you should be getting from the university about your decision is through Wolverine Access and not some phone call.

Yeah I know, but I called about my transcript being received on time. I didn’t ask her when the decision would come, but she just stated by mid April. I also agree with you about an admissions office telling someone that he is “competitive.” Seems too weird.

Do you think that if I go straight to the admissions office in person and ask about my situation, I can get more information than if I call?

i sent all my application materials including the commonapp on the deadline date (February 1). I recieved my acceptance notification today!

It was a strange situation. I was calling about the prerequisite requirements and because the school I’m at now grants credit for calc 1 and 2 for receiving a 4 on the BC exam, the CoE only takes a 5. So I had already taken calc 3 my first semester and the woman said if admitted I would need to take a higher level math course as a substitute for calc 2.

I’ve poked around for a little while on these forums, but this thread sparks some interest in me. I too spoke to an admissions director at U-M who has always been very, very helpful to me. I too called regarding my situation with prerequisites and when to apply as a transfer student and the overtone of the conversation was very positive. I was told that with my cumulative GPA (3.87 with 110 CHs) and completion of all my pre-reqs that there should be no worry getting in for Fall 2012.

All I can say was it sounded genuine, and shockingly she remembers me from the previous times I’ve called asking about specific questions I had. Yeah, generally the admin personnel at Michigan are rude and condescending, but when you find the few that are helpful they are your best resource!

MAG, I have dealt with many of the senior admissions people at Michigan and ALL of them are truly concerned and genuine people who care about Michigan AND the applicants. Now I know that at the lower levels, you are going to have admin types who are hit or miss; all universities do. But at the senior levels, they are all wonderful people. Of course, at a university that receives over 30,000 applicants (now almost 40,000), the senior admissions people will not be easily reached, leaving much of the general dialogue between applicants and the University to administrative officers. For this reason, many applicants have a hit or miss experience when they communicate with the admissions office.

Hey man, just curious, what were your stats?
