Hey guys, since people talked about wanting a Facebook page for transfers, I made one! Like it and pass it along to any other transfers you may know. Here’s the link: https://www.facebook.com/USDTransfers2012

How is everyone’s financial aid? Got a $16,150 USD Scholarship, work study, and a nice trust loan!

Combined with some other scholarships, I’m good to go! :)

Whaaat @ nandyo how did you get a usd scholarship? There’s no merit awards for transfers. Are you sure it’s not a grant or cal grant?

@Endphase

It says USD scholarship ~8k per semester, so I dunno! I wasn’t expecting this much from USD lol

I think merit scholarships have titles like “Torero Pride” or whatever…Mine just says “USD Scholarship”

I’m a sophomore transfer if that makes any difference…

My best friend is also going to usd and on her financial aid checklist says that she needs to complete the USD Scholarship Questiioner but its funny because i dont see that on my account. Did you guys have any idea why?

Also how long did it take for you guys to see how much financial aid was giving you.

thanks

@nandayo did you fill out the usd questionnaire thing before you got that scholarship?

Nah, but I do have that on my little to-do list…

It was just in my financial awards, all I had to do was accept it!

@srs

Maybe she’s a different year? Or perhaps they weren’t able to offer you one D:

Not sure though, you should probably just call admissions…

Endphase and Nandayo when did you guys got admitted?

Because there is priority for people who got accepted before June 1. Thats why we didnt receveid those grants. Although i was notified by phone on may 30 that i was admitted so now im waiting to hear back from the couselor, hopefully they give some grants.

I applied for admissions in January of this year.

I got accepted April 20. I did get 8k in grants but the rest was pretty much loans. I was a sophomore transfer too and had a 3.6 gpa with some decent ecs. Don’t know why I didn’t get much $$…

Financial aid? Um… well, from the school I got 2 grants, a USD scholarship, and work-study. They total $21,500. And I’m a veteran so the GI bill and the Yellow Ribbon Scholarship together is about $33,150. So combined with the school stuff, everything should be taken care of.

Wow then my grades must have sucked since I got no scholarships with a 3.7 and some good ecs…

@endphase maybe they didnt have enough funds. I just got $9500 usd grants but no work studygrants because there were no money left.

For those who got accepeted late I suggest that you write a appeal letter to the financial aid office for priority consideration otherwise you will not get grants or other aid (if money runs out).

I havent submitted all of my financial aid forms yet but ill keep you guys updated once its completed.

@Srs, do you think I should appeal for more grants?

All I received was a USD scholarship and work study. Also the scholarship questionnaire that would give the possibility of someone’s name on my “USD Scholarship”. I was accepted early June… which I think is pretty late, comparatively.

I would wait and see because you got $16k from usd scholarship alone more than anyone of us, if they take that away then you should appeal it. Just write them a letter and states your needs and why they should consider you appeal. ( make sure to include your student id#).

Hey everyone. Are any of you attending the transfer registration day on the 28th of june?

I’m attending whatever the first date was out of the three. So off thats it, yup.

awesome! I’ll be there too!

I was accepted to USD, but unfortunately missed the priority deadline for financial aid. I wrote an appeal letter asking to be reconsidered for the priority deadline. After my appeal I was awarded a USD Scholarship for $10, 500, a USD Trustee Loan, and a $1000 Federal Grant. This coupled with the other Federal Loans they offered along with my Cal Grant funds would have at least covered my tuition and allowed me to attend. Once the CalGrant money actually posted they removed all of the Scholarship money. Does this make sense? I could see them doing this if I exceeded my calculated cost to attend, but with loans and grants it would have only covered about 60% of my total costs. Just wondering if this was standard procedure or if anyone else has had this happen to them.
