So i submitted my application and all the supplementary material at the beginning of the month. I am a transfer Student and wolverine access says that all my stuff is in, my transcripts are in, just not up on WA yet, i checked. I talked to a counselor in admissions and she told me my file was strong (not sure if it's true or she was just telling me what i wanted to hear) - i had poor hs grades (3.0/27act) but strong college frosh year 3.73 fall, 4.0 winter - when would you think i can expect to hear from them? would it be dependent on this semesters mid term grades or what?

I've seen a bunch of your posts up and have replied to some of them, I think you've read some of my replies by now. Anyway, I too applied for transfer this winter to the college of engineering. Engineering is a little different than everything else, and they handle their own admissions. They have a bunch of prerequisites listed (about two years of classes), and I am finishing up the last of these this semester. I am worried about when (or if) I will get my decision.

I sent an email to the coordinator of transfer programs and admissions for engineering several months ago, and he said I won't get a decision until after I send FINAL (???) grades for this semester. I couldn't really believe this, but it seems like he would know. I don't see how that could be possible, as my final grades won't be in until after December 17. How they will be sent from my school, received by Ann Arbor, and reviewed at the end of December is beyond me.

I called to check the status of my application, to check if all my transcripts and everything are in, last week. I asked the person I was talking to if he knew anything about when I would get my decision. Unfortunately, he told me the same thing and in fact told me to contact the person who told me this originally to confirm.

If this really is the case, I don't know how I will even get in this semester. I will have to count on them actually saving a spot for me and reviewing my full application two weeks before the semester starts, in the middle of a holiday.

I think I have a strong application and should have no problems with that. ~3.5 high school gpa with 28 act, but I vastly improved in college. 3.97 GPA after 31 credits and I had a paid engineering internship for the whole summer.

As if the problems of hearing at all are not enough, I guess I will have little time to worry about housing or financial aid. I think I will also have to schedule classes for the winter term at my current school (UM-Dearborn).

I am going to call the coordinator of transfers tomorrow and see if I can get everything figured out. It would seem logical to me that they would admit me on condition that my grades stay up to par this semester, but they have told me they cannot process my application until everything is in.

As you can see, I'm very worried about this. I might have to drive down to Ann Arbor and meet with them. Good luck playing the waiting game as well, but at least you don't have to worry about all this stuff!

I am a current transfer student doing computer engineering. I was also told that I would have to wait for all of my final grades before my decision would be made and I received my decision in April after applying in February.

yeah see idk. I am going through LSA Poli sci major. But they have told me mid October to Mid November --- so i really don't know what that means. They haven't told me i need to send grades, though not yet available but still... idk

Wolverine,

So you sent your grades in April and also received your decision in April? Was it really fast from the time they got your grades to you getting your decision? I would think it's a lot different for fall, as there are the four months between semesters. Mind sharing your gpa and stats and everything when you applied? I don't know anything about what kind of students the college of engineering accepts. I'm guessing you started your Junior year that fall? Also, what year did you get in? Thanks a lot!

They only had my first semester grades when I was admitted, my finals were in the beginning of May. I had to take 14 credits during Summer to complete my prerequisites, so my decision was based on the completion of the rest of my classes with acceptable grades.

When I was admitted, my stats were:
HS: ~3.5 GPA, 30 ACT 36 Math
College: 16 Credits 4.0 from MSU

After I finished my prereqs at MSU and a local community college with a 4.0 I was given a small scholarship.

Thanks a lot for the response, it makes me feel a lot better! From your username, I'm guessing this fall is your first semester at Michigan? Contrats!

Did you apply to transfer Winter semester or Fall?

Two of my friends transferred from other schools (Michigan State and U-M Dearborn) Winter semester of their sophomore years, and they both heard back before December. My friend who transferred from MSU heard back on October 5th (she applied around August 25, I think).

My application for Winter '09 was received on August 26th, so I'm hoping to hear back in a few weeks.

As for mid-term grades, I don't think they're required for LSA in order to receive a decision; I just know that you have to send them in after you've been accepted.

If you didn't read my really long post, I am also hoping to transfer from UM-Dearborn this winter. What programs did your friends apply to? Engineering does everything on their own, so I might not have the same luck with finding out soon.

What is everyone's application status on Wolverine Access? Mine says "Application is Not Complete." I've called the CoE and they said my stuff is in. I should probably call again.

Well I just called this second and talked to the coordinator of transfer admission and programs for the college of engineering. He gave me some pretty good news. They have my full application and will probably send me a decision within three to four weeks. It will be conditional on getting satisfactory grades this fall. He said with a 3.97, I am pretty much set and it will likely be good news. All I have to do now is pull three more A's for the prerequisites I am taking now and send my transcript and the end of this term (of course that's always easier said than done), but I think I'm almost there.

So you're going CoE?? idk about them, i was kinda freaking out over the past few weeks but an admin counselor gave a prelim look over my app and said it looked strong? what that means, i have no idea. could mean i have a good shot or she is just not trying to put me down. But i called today and said it was in queue for review and maybe in the next few weeks i'll have a decision. For LSA do they make decisions based on midterms or will they go off last semester grades? Does WA actually tell you that your app is complete b/c there is nothing on there for me saying it is complete nor saying it is not complete... maybe that is just CoE that does that... good luck though. hope you get in

For LSA, I would imagine they don't need midterm grades. But if they are good when you get them, you might as well send them in. The CoE has a list of specific courses that must be completed before you transfer. This semester I am finishing the prereqs, so they officially need my grades from those classes to let me in. That's why I'll have to send my transcript in come December. Good luck to you!
