Transfer Dilemma

Hey everyone. I am currently a junior at a top public university. I am not really that happy at my current college. I have a lot of friends and yeah I guess I have fun socially, but I am not enjoying my academic experience thus far. I do not really like my major because the classes are so big (100 people plus). I thought that going into my upper-level courses, that the classes would get smaller, but they have not. So now, I am at a crossroads of what to do. Should I tough it out and stay at my college and graduate in 1.5 years or do I transfer to somewhere cheaper where i may have a better academic experience?

Currently, I am paying OOS tuition for a school that I do not think is worth it ($50,000). The in-state option is around $20,000.

I have a pretty decent GPA (3.7), but am afraid that it will drop farther as I do not enjoy my classes.

Where would you transfer to? and would any college allow you to enter with so many credits? If you’re not liking your major, your not doing yourself any favors paying $50k per year.

I would just transfer to my in-state public. It’s not ranked as high as my current school, but what I’ve realized is that rankings don’t matter that much. If you’re not happy somewhere then you’re not going to be successful. I would probably have to spend an extra semester there.

Better academic experience, better grades and 30k/yr cheaper, sounds like a slam dunk to me.

Ratings are over rated IMO. Ranking doesn’t help you if your gpa drops. While ratings may matter in a few cases, what you do at the school is more important most of the time. What’s the ranking differential? #3 vs. #120 or #30 vs. #50? The former may give pause to consider if it’s worth 30k, but the latter is indistinguishable.
