Transfer Dilemma

I am currently attending UC Riverside but I plan on transfering to either UC Santa Barbara or UC Irvine for next fall after my sophmore year. The problem I have is that I dont know whether I should go to a community college for this coming school year and transfer from there or transfer from UCR. Another problem I have is that my GPA is a 2.0 which is not good and GPA's transfer from UC to UC so that might give me a reason to stay at UCR next year to raise my transferable GPA, instead of going to a community college and having that 2.0 from UCR transfer only since community college GPA's dont transfer. Does anybody know if UC's use previous GPA's from other UC's when deciding admission or do they just take into account your GPA of both your UC and JC grades combined? If it is the former than I would be better of staying at UCR to raise my GPA but if it is the latter than it would be better to attend a community college because of the admission priority.

I dont know what you are talking about. In general, once you transfer, your gpa at your old school wont transfer. Meaning, you ucr gpa wont transfer into UCSB.

Yes, they will combine both gpas.

mojo couldn't be more wrong, don't listen to his post. He has no idea what he's talking about. You go to UC Riverside... meaning if you transfer to UCSB or UCI your gpa WILL transfer because it is a UC-UC transfer.

As to your current situation, if you can get into UCI/SB with your 2.0 GPA from UC Riverside then by all means do so. UC GPA is UC GPA no matter which UC institution you attend. However I don't think UCI/SB would accept you with that GPA, so try to raise it a little and apply again.

you'll need to raise your gpa...if you can get to 2.7-2.9, you will almost for sure get UCI/UCSB and have a shot at UCSD. I had some pretty extreme circumstances explained in my personal statement, so I got into UCSD with a 2.5 from UCR. Good luck!
