Transfer dilemma

I just finished my first year at Colorado, a polisci/ir major interested in policy, and was planning to transfer up to Tufts/Georgetown/etc after my sophomore year. But I applied for a transfer to American to see where I stand (since it was free app) and got accepted. Should I stay at Colorado and plan a transfer after next year, or should I go to American for next year and still plan to transfer afterwards? I'm afriad that schools would look down on students who transfer so ambitiously, and not knowing enough profs for recs that will be necessary when applying to grad/law school.

I'm out of state, by the way, and DC would be closer to home.

If you really want to go to Tufts or Georgetown I would say def. stay where you are this year and do really well. Disregarding grad/law school, it won't look good to Tufts or Georgetown either that you're applying to transfer for a second time.

bump. see if i can get more advice.

Unless you're really miserable at Colorado, I second the advice to stick it out and try for Tufts and Georgetwon from Colorado.

Transferring twice does not equal ambition. It shows lack of direction.

Stay at Colorado.

Like everybody else has said, you need to stay put. Tufts is going to begin to wonder why you're constantly wanting to move schools, and that could cause a problem. It might put the idea in their head that problems follow you, since it sets up the question of why you're constantly having to leave schools.

Schools don't like taking students who transfer around too much. It's a huge negative. If you're that committed to getting accepted to Tufts, stay put another year and try then. Who knows -- you might end up liking Colorado enough to stay there.

well, i haven't reply to them yet (got till August 1st), and I'm kinda leaning towards going there and staying there.

i just want to know, how do colorado and american compare relatively in terms of academics (political science/international relations major).

also, to see what chances i have if i were to transfer next year, i'm a 3.5 student at colorado, taking quite a bit of polisci classes, i'm in model un (won a few awards for conferences), and i work on a regular basis. how are my transfer chances to top schools for my major (like georgetown, tufts, michigan, chicago, columbia)?

oh, my high school gpa is 2.7, but i went to a reputable high school (like we send a lot of kids to ivies and whatnot), just soccer as an ec from high school.

thanks.

Why didn't you just apply to tufts or georgetown?!

gtown rejected me. i didnt apply to tufts, cause i didn't know of its great ir program until late.
