Transfer dilemma

I'm an IS major at CMU, and after a long while considering things, I've decided I really want to take computer science instead. The only thing is though, when I should let my advisor know about it: as soon as I can, or wait after a month or two? One OC said I should let him (or someone) know as soon as I can so that I can take the opportunity when it first presents itself. I'm worried though, about whether that would make other teachers that know ... I don't know, slightly bitter or biased toward me and make first semester hard for me on purpose (sounds silly, but I've had teachers like that before :). Would teachers really be like that? Plus, I think the teachers would obviously want to see how good my performance in CS-related classes is after a time first before they consider me for real.

But then, if I wait for a month, my chances might decrease due to rise in demand, wouldn't you think? It also seems there are quite a lot of CS wannabes here too. So ... what do I do?? ^^;

Thanks

No one is going to know of your intent to transfer aside from your advisor, so your professors really won’t treat you differently. Tell him or her as soon as possible.

You’re not even going to be able to transfer until you have some good grades in weeder classes to show for it, so whether you tell your advisor now or in a month is kind of a moot point, and competition isn’t really going to change, since you’ll all be considered at roughly the same point. But it’s more honorable to make your intentions known up front so he or she can advise you as fully as possible.
