For an incoming sophomore transfer, would traditional or modern be better? Are they both suite style? Can you get a single in a tradition suite?

All moderns are suite style, and all traditional are traditional style (communal bathroom for entire floor). I liked the convenience of a suite of a bathroom right by your room, but it depends on what you want. Singles and suites are both more expensive than their counterparts.

Wait. What are your dorm options? The non-freshmen traditionals are typically suite style as well.

By that I mean dorms like Hurd that are traditional yet have suites and you can indeed get a single.

(And its not communal bathroom style. It’s a bathroom to a suite).

Oh, my mistake then. I guess I was mistaken - I always associated modern with suite and traditional with communal bathroom, but it appears that’s not the case.

^Didn’t mean to be correcting you. I honestly have no idea where they are planning on putting the transfers next year, so it really could be a multitude of possibilities. One year it was in sophomore suites (modern & traditional), another year one of the ex-frat houses on upper row was transfers-only, and I think other options have also been given (ie northside in the Village/Lopata House/etc).

But OP, to summarize the traditional options:

Lee/Ruby/Beau (typically freshmen): as RyanMK described it.
“Sophomore” traditionals (ie Dauten, Hurd, and a handful of others): typically 4 rooms to a suite w/ 2 doubles & 2 singles (6 people max) & a bathroom & common room.

I don’t know of any “traditional” dorms outside of the 40, but someone correct me if that’s wrong. Anything northside or upper/lower row is essentially similar to a modern.
