Transfer Eligibility Question

MIT admissions webpage states that students with more than 2.5 years of study at an undergraduate institution aren't eligible to transfer into MIT. However, if a student will have completed 2.5 years of college at the time of entry into MIT is he/ she eligible to apply? I believe the answer is yes but I'd like to confirm this.

Also, if the student has earned more credits than the standard for 2.5 years of undergraduate study are they still eligible to apply? (assuming they would enter MIT with 2.5 years/ 5 semesters of college completed)

Thanks in advance.

You can have completed no more than 2.5 years of college at the time of entry – so 2.5 years is okay, but more than that is not.

My reading of the website indicates that MIT considers 2.5 semesters of attendance the maximum, not 2.5 semesters of credit. But this is a question you might consider directing at the admissions office.

Thank you mollie.

Additionally, MIT recommends transfers to have completed 2 semesters of calculus-based physics. I’m assuming this means a preference toward two semesters completed prior to submitting the transfer application, rather than 2 semesters completed by the time of entry/(one semester completed prior to submitting the app)?
